Annoing Stuff ( L & R Unbalance )

HI, i got my sound card and speakers some months ago but only now i starded to usem more, since the start i noticed a significant diference between one speaker and the other (one had more punch than the other, on switching off theres was a noise in one speaker louder than the other) They should be exactly equal shouldn't they ?, so i sent them to "Event" to fix..

Sometime after i was doing an experience to check if there was still any diference between L&R :

Play a snare drum loop centered and then muting L and then R! Now one channel is brighter, the other is deeper and more punchy, it's not a big diference but annoys me because i know it existes..

I tried several tecniques not just in the speakers: 1 swapping cables
2 swapping channels, speakers
3 checking connectors and cables for currosion
4 diferent outputs

I am confused, i dont know anymore wether that diference between L and R is in the Fireface (sound card) and it's sofware, the speakers, etc..

I have even asked about three more people and they notice it!

Anny techniques you can tell me, to find out if the quality of the signal in L is the same as R ???? because the levels are the same it;s just one that is more bright and the onther is a bit deeper and punchier!

Can this have an influence (even if it's nearly unnoticible) on my production ?

Imagine, in my sound card if the left channel has got more punch then the right cannel when palyed at 20K can be noticible and cause little unbalance, you might even use EQ in a non accurate way!

Does this make sense, anybody had this issue, (paranoia) lol???

Peace and light for all!

after switching cables, was it the same speaker with more punch or the other one? if it's the same than i guess the problem are the monitors, if not than i think the soundcard (or the snare sample).
and actually there should be (almost) no noise at all in the speakers.

Make a new project, insert a mono channel with a kick (for example). loop it.

Start changing sides (cabes, monitors, mixer channels etc.)

If problem presists it might be your interface. Try using the computer built in soundcard, just for reference.

If it's not this it might be your DAW software settings, try using a different one (or any audio editor like Audacity)

IF you still have the problem, try (maybe) moving the speakers themselves to different point in the room, it might be (though unlikely) the acoustics of your room.

If none of these help, take your whole setup to some1 else's and use their equipment to test yours.

Or it might be ghosts and there's nothing you'll be able to do about it.

great tips Partzi Floch! thank you.

Well, i tried several snare drums (coz with the snares you can rally notice the diference) , swaped the cables, and swaped the left channel to the right , and the right to the left physically and it stays the same, the speaker with more bright sound stays the same!

I have a feeling that is the speakers, no?

I bought these speakers(Event ASP6) as a rifurbished item that for what i was told means they were bought and the person who bought sent them to the shop for some reason, because of that they cost me £465 (less than the usual price), the speakers were new and proper packed!

Now i think, if a person buyies a pair of speakers in this price range she most probably knows what is buying (knows what to expect most of the time), so why send them back to the shop ??, the person probably noticed this problem !!!

I have no other speakers to try but i,ll find some to make sure it's the motherfuckin' speakers...

By the way when i first got the speakers i send them to fix couse i noticed a big click on switching off in one cabinet that the other didn't have... and they did something about it (it wasn't my paranoia. lol), but there is still a diference but i don't care if one speaker has a bigger click on switching off than the other anymore, but if there's an unballance in the channels(fuckin' annoys me isn't it ?)

I'll try with other speakers, if that's the problem gonna have to speak to "Event" even thou the guarantee for the refurbished item was 3 months only( i am gonna ha to buy new speakers .lol.)

just to share my dilema with you, there isn't more yu can do for me.. thanks for the tips

Fuck man, only now i leard the real sense of the word "Refurbished", the item as not passed the quality standard so it cannot be sold as new!(it may have scratches or physical damage that usually don affect the performance wich is not the case!!!

dude, in this case it is probably the monitors themselves indeed.

All you have to do is check it with your hi-fi or something (or any other 2 speakers)

regarding the refurbished stuff, I think you got exactly the right comment at the bottom of your posts
