ANDEAN TRIBE presents the best open air party for the New Year's Eve. Andean Tribe 2009 @ The mystical inca valley of "SORATA".
But before presenting the details of the festival we would like you to know a bit more about the magical place where the party is being held.
SORATA – PIE DE NEVADOS
Located on the slopes of the snowy Illampu mountain, Sorata is a beautiful colonial town which was founded when a big gold mine was discovered thatcreated riches and splendor in its era. At aproximately 148 km. from the city of La Paz and at 2.711 meters above the sea level can be found the highest part of the valley of Sorata. Because of its prehispanic style and a irregular construction of its blocks, this place has become a typical colonial town. Some writers even consider it a "Heaven on Earth" due to the diversity of its landscapes which can be compared to a fusion of eco-regions.
Its geographical characteristics have allowed to develop trekking circuits, mountain biking, walks and 4x4 trips. The visitor can also enjoy attractions like the San Pedro Cavern (Gruta de San Pedro), the Gold Track (Camino del Oro) and others. Sorata is also a starting point for an extraordinary climbing adventure to the snowy mountain tops.
Its a nice place and the surrounding mountains have something to do with it: a few thousand glaciers hang from the mountains like curtains.

* TRAVELLER'S INFORMATION *
In one day, you can rent a horse at the Casa Reggae, talk with Severo or Emilio, he will give you a good price. Visit "La Gruta", a cavern without bottom containing a lake.Then, walking 10 minutes back to Sorata you will find a track that goes up the mountain, take it and to go round the mountain following a trail to Sorata (ask the locals). In two days you can discover the most autochtonous side of the area.

HOW TO GET IN :
Buses leave every 30 mins. From the Sorata bus terminal located in the "Cementerio General" (1 block away from the gas station, in the northen part of La Paz), the fair costs aprox. 15 bolivianos from 05:00 hrs. till 16:00 hrs. Once in the town of Sorata ask for the "camino a la gruta" and at about 2 kms from town you will find the "Illampu Cafe", the party location.
You can also take a taxi or a "camioneta" from the main town square to go to the party location, the price will depend on the number of people who are going to the same place or who are taking the same kind of transport. In Sorata you will find lots of hostals and hotels offering different prices, we recommend: Hotel Ex-Prefectural.........., Hostal Las Piedras..........
Note: bring warm clothes for the Party, sun and rain protection (there will be a big tent for the stage, this is just in case), mosquito repelent and light. If you want to stay in Sorata for a couple of days you'd better take a bus earlier from La Paz so you can have the time to find a good hotel until the night. Lots of people are also going out of the city for New Year's Eve so you may have difficulties in finding a hotel. Now you know! =)
