First of all, I'd like to thank you all for helping me make that song. I have noticed that a big proportion of the posts are questions like what instruments these bands use, what vsts they use, how did they do that? So I thought what if we did this with each other songs? This way we can ask each other directly instead of speculating. So I am going to start this and hopefully others will follow.
Go to that link to get the song. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/7/uiumusic.htm
It's something like infected mushroom style.
The song is called battle of good and evil
For pad I used xphraze+cubase chopper to get that start and stop effect. The samples I used for the effects are from Ilio Trance Fusion and Distorted reality. The first gated voice is absynth using realmacro's vocal preset from kvr gated with midi triggering with desroy fx skidder(thanks to that guy from this forum that suggested it). The second voice is Delay lama gated with skidder as well. The bassline is made with v station. For the drums I used the midi files from battery and for the drum samples I used are AKAI Mega Drums. For the vocoded voices I used Vokator on some voices I sampled from a Native Indian cd and increased the pitch. The other voice is mine. The thunder you can hear from the voice is actually distortion cause I used my laptop's microphone to record it.(sometimes mistakes are good) and I flanged the voice. The continuous sequence that comes in with the second voice is madewith nord Lead + cubase flanger. I also used the same flanger on some of the drums to make them more liquid. When the drums stop the melody that comes is made with Albino(albino's phazer is the best). When the drums come back again, the repeating sequence is made with Nord Lead using a new preset, but the same flanger. The flute is from voices of Instabul with a little cubase reverb to make it more alive.
I also used waves compressor for the mastering and paz analyzer to see the frequences. but I ran out of cpu as usual and I could't compress all of the sounds. That's about it. I would very happy to hear some suggestions. Especially when the drums stop at the first part, and the albino melody starts, it seems that it starts too sudden. Any Ideas?

Yes. Add a 4/4 drum beat to it
I also liked that background flanged sound (the one which goes at 2:45 in that area).
The sound isn't that great, but the musicality is great. Keep up the good work

Thanks for your comments. I always have problems with sound quality cause I am using too many vsts, and by the time I have finished the track and try to do mastering, my cpu gets overheated and it's starting and stopping all the time. |

I got a strong computer, so I don't have that problem.
But if you do, make them audio. Best way to get rid of cpu load.

Hi there. I've just finished listning to the first one, time perception and I realized that I still have a long way to go. Well, Ive only been making music for half a year, so I still have a lot to learn. How long have you been making music and how long did it take you to make decent music? Can you explain how you made this song? Especially the synths you are using, how you made the higher state of consiousness type of voice. I tried making this kind of bass using nectario's synthesis techniques, but I couldn't make anything as good as yours. Any tips? Is it about equing? Or the synth you are using? And the appregio, if it is appregio, how you did it. Thanks. I'll listen to your other songs and ask you some more questions. |

Wow, a lot of questions now
> How long have you been making music
About 15 years since i took up music (clarinet)... about 5 years producing it electronically.
> how long did it take you to make decent music
About 3-4 years I guess, but I learned really slow because I had no friends who did it, and had crap tools, and i guess i must also be a slow learner.
> how you made the higher state of consiousness type of voice
the vocal processing was done with granulab.

Its free

Well, I was pretty sure I made that bass with v-station, but I just looked and I was wrong. That was actually the first and only time I used something called tb-unknown (a vsti 303 emulater which is also free). processing wise it appears the only thing i did with it was some eq (removed some of the clicky hi end, which is still there, in fact i like it, it adds some percussive impact, but not as nasty as it was) and a touch of chorus.
> the appregio, if it is appregio, how you did it
well, there's several arpeggio sorta noises. the one that comes in at 1:35 was a z3ta, the ones on top of the mix around 3:00 are from my ms2000r. notes wise i just programmed them all, sometimes i play things in, quantize and edit, other times just program it all by mouse, depends on the style of riff really.
processing wise all the synths probably got recorded with filter movement, compressed, then some ohmboyz filterdelay, and some reverb - thats pretty much my stock recipe for synths it never really fails
