And what does that research show?

The RMS values is quite different, and hence you would expect harder clipping on one.
What analouge compressor and what digital compressor was used?

IMO a picture of a donkey and a frog would tell me just as much about analouge vs digital compressors.

if we assume both compressors have been used with "the same" parameters (threshold, ratio, attack and release) and the analog got to the digital domain with good a ADC then at least we can say the digital got the peaks higher (maybe close to squares) but the analog got it louder (that's what we want)...

?

the best vst analog type compressor I eva seen is PSP Vintage Warmer, it really has the characteristics of warm sound.
