In my opinion the macky mixers do qualify, I would get good converters though. Pro Tools is doing a fine job at converting the audio!

haha none, they are all crap. mackie are good at making studio monitors not desks.
for the same money you could get a used Rupert Neve desk.
if i had a mackie mixer i would turn it into something more useful like a coffee table or a shelf. |

i have a soundcraft 400B - giant old analogue beast.
at the moment i don't even have a dedicated studio space because our flat is so tiny... so the desk sits gathering dust in storage.
i got it for free someone my uncle knew found it in a barn... as in covered with hay. works great |

but i haven't "heard" of any1 selling a neve on ebay
the only shop i know is cml-shop
^even there you won't get a working neve console for the price of a new mackie
"bcoz you can't even compare them.."
that's the reason why i was asking if some1 (neogen) else has a clue..
pling:pling!? if i had mackie speakers i'd use them as a vase _pling?!

Comparing Amek and Neve to Mackie is a bit stretched don't you think? It all depends on your budged and of course if your budget allows Neve or Amek than surely go for it. I personally doubt anybody in the Psy Trance biz has enough cash to get those beasts.
I have used both Analog and Digital (D8B)Mackie consoles and i can mention that they were much better than Behringer and Roland (functionality wise) consoles. They weren't perfect but very far from bad.

I don't know if anyone but neogen is saying Mackies desks are bad.
I think they are quite good desks.
Build quality is good, layout is very good and the sound is clean.
But if the reason for getting a console to get a warmer sound than what you get mixing ITB they are not a very good choice IMO.

sure thing Pavel_ that's what i was kinda trying to say..
but i think you really have to write down in detail what you think, otherwise ppl won't get it -don't get me wrong guys
but yeah_ i must admit that i stopped reading after the word neve and overlooked the word design.. no wait..rupert neve desk..whatsoever..
but still, comparing neve design and mackie_ is like comparing cigarettes with cars..
gsus_ i know why i haven't been in isra for 1 year- it's so/too addictive
_ i agree with Pavel and Spindrift : mackies are not bad!
wasn't my intention to drift this topic away from it's origin
- i wouldn't consider myself to be a "psytrance artist" and i got no analog-console at home.but in the studios i am working @ ..
my dream is to have a own studio with a VR, G+ or RS some day.. and i will give all for this dream.. but till now the sentence "close your eyes and you'll see what's yours" is tracking me
gone*** for another year
all the best

it is stretched to compare,
which is exactly my point,
there is no comparison.
if your sending the signal out to add voltage,
you shouldn't settle for anything less than a desk like those.
there is no point in sending a siganl out to a mackie to add warmth, the computer would simply do a better job on its own.
i know people have worked on the best desks around,
so if they say a mackie is no good and the computer would do it better, then i know they are no good.
mackies are ok for monitoring perposes only, NOT WARMTH. |

Just for the record i know Ben Watkins (Juno reactor) is using an Amek Media 51 desk but he still mixes in the computer, so ive read in an interview. Still i think that his tracks are some of the nicest sounding psy tracks out there.
Also he doesnt like SSL wich i believe was used to mix the tracks for The Matrix. |

Hey hey, Juno Reactor ain't a Psy Trance act.
Warmth is a very subjective thing. Some might say it's cool and some might say it's distorting the original signal. Some prefer round edges and some prefer clear and precise sound. So again, I'd personally prefer a good Analog summing console that wouldn't round the edges and wouldn't add extra harmonies to my channels, some might disagree.
