i didn't even know at first that it was a soundtrack for the splintercell game. just
listened to it quickly in the shop and was
positively surprised by the fact that mr. tobin was back at his more jazzy roots.
when i listened to the record better at home
(and read the sleeve notes) i was a bit disappointed. there are over 10 artists collaborating on the album but you (well, i) can't really hear it. secondly the tracks
are in some odd way empty, with no real direction or meaning. the sounds are what you can expect from amon tobin but the production is for my taste over the top (too clean, too pumped).
it might be a great soundtrack for a game but
doesn't do it for me as an ALBUM.
what do you say?

No idea. All I know is that he is performing in Montreal soon and I am thinking of going to see him. Never seen him live yet.

his live / DJ sets are FUCKING HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!
As long as you're into d&b that is
didn't actually know he had a new album due
As always with his releases, I wait with great anticipation. Didn't dig his last release as much as earlier ones, but at least his sound's progressing
new Hadal Drop album on the way

well I think this is a great album! Took me a few listens to appreciate, but I love the feel that he's given the recordings of live instruments. The bassline from the first track is permanently getting stuck in my head & the last track is totally rocking!! Almost feels like he's revisiting the glory days of Amon-jazz with the atmospheres in some of these tracks.. just heaps of string & brass sections. All round great album for me. Maybe his best since "Permutations" in my opinion

Pure insanity, mate
Wow. Soundscapes galore. His music has everything, from rock to jazz to ambient, to dnb of course.
Surround sound with an Amon Tobin performance was not an event to miss.

He has great production skills and ideas, but I am also not finding myself connecting very well.
Though a live by him must be awesome.

try Bricolage
it's a great album...
it's dub, jazz, blues, DnB all mashed up for the perfect groove...

I like the Splinter Cell soundtrack, but I'm really looking forward to hearing his new album. I caught his show in Montreal last month and I was really digging the new stuff he played. Has anyone else figured out what clip #3 is on the Ninja Tune/Amon Tobin contest? I want to win that 5.1 surround sound system!!
