Colin, are you sure about that? I know Intel where jumping all over CakeWalk giving them free developement machines when they announced work on Sonar64 because they where supposed to be the first. But I could be wrong of course ...

I'm pretty sure, although I could just be spouting Steinberg marketing bullshit. I've ordered SX3 though (£50 from a friend who works in a music store) so I should know for sure when it arrives...

If u want to hear anotherones opinion
Yes AMD is fast enough to Beat Intel but only in categories like games and "normal" multimedia stuff...the 64 bit thing doesnt matter, in case that it isnt true 64 bit.
The biggest problem is that AMD cpu's come with the baddest chipset u could expect for audioproducing ...using a crap nvida nforce chipset and S-ATA HDDS will cause clicks and stucks in recording audio ie. from synth via a high quality soundcard like Delta 1010lt.
Thats cause the s-ata controller loads the pci-bus, enough to cause clicks real cheap quality at nvidas side hehe...i had still problems with VIA chipsets either their S-ATA controller is build in the south-bridge so it shouldnt overload the PCI-bus.
In my opinion u should go for Intel because they have more time to improve stable quality and working chipsets for the mainboards.
AMD is still low cost @ max speed and all that is benchmark relayable...but audioproducing is another section also when using new technologies, so be on the safe side buy intel or wait for real 64 bit or dont use S-ATA And using AMD 64 wont made u proof for real new technologies

for sure a dual G5 could do a good job
but id go for a dual opteron if i have to choose...
btw, i heard that intel is going to continue the developing of the G5 processors.... is that true? (www) DarkPrisma.com.ar/ ~ FranticNoise.com.ar/ ~ Megalopsy.com.ar/ ~

I'm not a technical freak but the conclusion I made from a similiar post I wrote soon before christmas time was to choose the AMD64. So if you want more info you can search for my nickname in this section of the forum.
I finally chose an AMD64 3500+ processor and it's working out great! Really stable and no problem with the speed at all. Good luck |
