i found some great deals on DDR2-800 2x2GB RAM and GEForce9500GT 1TB VRAM dual-display and 1TB SATA 3Gb/s. So, I think I am covered on all the peripheral front, just need to pick a decent mobo to go with it.

vegetal .. I like your idea about getting a mobo with 790G and SB750 chipsets..

but also another thing , i am speculating here .. by dec18, with the introduction of deneb processors, the X2 and phenom will be even cheaper, right?
at this point, quad core has slightly higher preference, but it will all come down to what kind of deal i will get for processor & mobo...

If you decide to go for the 790Fx/G then you don´t need the Geforce-card to begin with

And yes i heard some rumors that they will start clearing the current stock of Phenoms and Athlon64 to make space for the Phenom II

One more thing TDP between Intel and Amd is no good way of seeing which one of them that consumes the most power since Intel does NOT take thoose numbers at 100% load which amd does, from what i can remember intel defined tdp as "measured at average workload".
And the New I7 is even more powerhungry due to the integrated memory controller, specced at 130W TDP you can probably expect even more if you really push the system.           Demand recognition for the Armenian genocide 1915

Hi guys.

Here some benchmarks of the AMD Intel quadcores and the new inte i7.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1642/7/intel_core_i7_nehalem_arrives_and_fsb_departs/index.html

so you don't have to discuss hot air but see a wide choice of various benchmark (not just one)

Obviously (and for the last two years thats nothing new) AMD is the weakest. Times where AMD was top, and the race was close are over since the core2 aera.

i7 have integrated memory controller (which was AMDs idea and made the leader for a while back then) which makes it now realllllllly fast memory wise. its tripple channel now by the way.

As for "I have not seen a producer yet who finds a quad limiting".. well I don't know where you live, but I know a lot of them.
Depends sooooo much on kind of music, way to work etc.

I got an AMD Phenom 9850 black edition, love it, never chokes on me, but, I see the benchmarks and the latest Intel CPU look extremely fast and stable.
If you got the money, go for the most expensive, at least, top 3 expensives.
Usually expensive is good

But, if you want to be smart, get a Quadcore 9850 black edition, is great, cheap and overclocks nicely, from 2.5 ghz to 3.2 stable, I would recommend to overclock only to 2.7-2.9 ghz only, for more reliable performance.
Asus is a great choice for the AM2+ socket, make sure your bios lets you take control of oveclocking features, and that gives you somekind of overclock protection.
