I am working on an ambient tune right now and have some breakbeats I want to put into the mix. Do you sidechain lets say breakbeat to the bass? Or another breakbeat to that breakbeat, or both to the bass? Or how?

If yes, up to what frequency or what frequencies in case of a chain do you usually duck?

Would love to hear some more about this issue.

Thank you!

if your bass is in the way of the kick than i would sidechain the bass (duck the bass if the kick hits). If not you can still use it if it adds to the funk of the track, but it is not necesarry.

If you want to use the sidechain in a musical way you could do pretty much whatever sounds good.
Sidechaining breakbeat to breakbeat could have some interesting effects i think, so give that a try.

When using a sidechain you can decide to duck only certain freqs but usually you duck all.

I usually try to eq the kick/bass as synergetic as possible (make them fit), and then sidechain a band on an eq on the bass to the kick to help it even more. Multiband sidechain           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

I am actually using breakbeats on this one, no kick this time, thus the question. Interesting approach Fraggle, thank you, will check this out on a dance track!           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

sidechaining EQ can give very different results to sidechaining compression...

i sometimes use a ghost track for sidechaining - e.g. an audio track with a steady kick or click which doesn't go to the main outs. that way you can keep the sidechain signal going during breaks...           http://www.myspace.com/aeonaeon

What I mean is just sidechain the bass to the most bass-heavy hits in your breaks           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

The mission is just to make room for the frequencies, doesnt matter if it is pop or trance; bass is bass           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet
