Compilation Peace Therapy -=- Kagdila Records

This release is a compilation of ambient music. It was compiled, mixed and mastered by DJ Zen from Canada.
Kagdila records has released some ambient albums... http://www.kagdilarecords.com/home.html

Cover: The artwork was made by DJ Zen too, and it show some fractal filled with different elements from nature.
http://212.227.206.198/cgi-bin/zoom.cgi?kag1cd012_b.jpg:CDs/kag/kag1cd012.html:;

Track List:

1. DJ Zen - Anamatha
2. Sneila - We breath Air
3. Essential Trip - Portal
4. DJ Zen - Dar a Luz
5. Psionyx - Praetorius
6. Essential Trip - Rise
7. Aes Dana - Happy Leary
8. Khetzal - Sanctuaire
9. DJ Zen - The Earth

As usual, lets see it track by track:

1. DJ Zen - Anamatha --> This first track just keeps flowing... Not much psychedelic, but very hypnotic. It just builds up forever... This track is the intro to our trip.

2. Sneila - We breath Air --> Much 'heavier' than the first track. Good bass, 90 bpms, nice elements and distortion combining in a psychedelic trip... Good track!

3. Essential Trip - Portal --> This track is a bit faster, but still 100% chilling stuff... Nice melodies with flute-like sounds and, believe you or not a pumping bass... I emerge from the huge break inside a psychedelic dome, surrounds by all nature sounds like birds, water, frogs... This track takes me away...

4. DJ Zen - Dar a Luz --> Starting with a well-known melody (Damn it, I can't remember where are these melodies from!), DJ Zen show us that his first track was really an intro... This one is much more tribal and develops in different ways, exploring more than 12 minutes of evolution. A bit of everything here.

5. Psionyx - Praetorius --> From the beginning we can tell this is much more experimental than the previous tracks, break beat stuff and weird sounds... After the first half, it becomes more dance oriented, 120 danceable bpms , but still experimental.

6. Essential Trip - Rise --> As the name suggests, this stuff is more energetic... Even psychedelic... the bpm keep up... I think here the track name speaks for itself.

7. Aes Dana - Happy Leary --> This fine track starts with a sample in that I can only recognize the word "Together"... Emotional track, got me from the first listening, some acidic touch at first and them becomes more danceable... One of my favorites.

8. Khetzal - Sanctuaire --> Great start with all that birds singing and a melody growing on it... Combines with the name of the track. This 127 bpm track was made by a French guy... Full of epic melodies and powered by a strong kick/bass combo, this is another of my favorites...

9. DJ Zen - The Earth --> Another long track: more than 13 minutes... Tribalistic sounds and some acid line here and there... sounds nice, maybe too fast. The track ends around 7:30, after that a slow and low chanting starts surrounds by forest sounds, different kinds of birds and some other sounds from nature.

The track transitions are well mixed and the whole concept of nature based eclectic ambient music was achieved here. We have nothing else that 80 minutes of chill music here,

Verdict: 7.5/10
Favorites: I do got some favorites, but I think this release is to be heard as a whole, because it's kinda a concept album, in which nature is the core theme or root, an the ramifications grows in all directions of ambient and chill music.

I guess this compilation pretends to provide chill out tunes. Indeed taking each track one by one, results musically mediocrely average ; but if considering the 9 tracks as a global flow sounds much better. The main problem is the level production that sounds today outdated compared to the current ambient/chill-out standards acts like Enthéogenic, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Kick bong for example. Actually, i consider most of this compilation closer to midtempo goa (tracks 1,2,5,6,8),in an Alien Mutation way to be more precize but more goa flavoured & less floating effective, than real chill-out stuffs.

These kinda Chill sounds aren’t too much my style coz it’s not smooth enough, with too heavy tones, fast & pushed rythmic (track 7,10), in 2 simple ideas : not calm & chiseled enough .

Most attractive tunes:3,4
4/10

Thanx for the comments!

Yes this cd is an hymn to Nature =)

And last track was made by Khetzal and me (I don't think you got original cd for reviewing)
-I'm also dj Zen and Idael from Canada-

'Dar a Luz' was made to celebrate my son's birth and the Sneila trax was remixed by me

It was intended to be a chill-out GOA compilation with that 'nature concept', a true 'sound remedy' in a sense and on the front cover it's written like '9 exclusive downtempo trax'

Peace Therapy 2 is coming this year with more trax from Chi A.D, Aes Dana, Master Margherita, Khetzal (check out his album on Suntrip recs. in 2006!!), Goasia, Imagination Corp.(feat Prosect), Azriel, Zen, SynSUN, Astral Waves, Abyll.

Stay tuned for a new episode called 'healing melodies' following the same vibes as Vol.1 with more 'goa' chill/downtempo trax melted with more original new tunes.

Artwork will be much more 'actual' that the first - I have to say that this Peace Therapy concept was my first release in which I made everything from 2001 to 2002 -

Cheers!

I also was never under the impression that the compilation was being marketed as a "chill" or "ambient" compilation. More like relaxed or downtempo Goa, as DJ Zen notes.

In any case, I'm still proud of the work I contributed to it and I'm happy to be part of something that's still fairly unique to the scene.

V/A - "Peace Therapy" [Kagdila]

1. DJ Zen - "Anamatha (Intro)"
A nice enough track, but a bit repetitive & generic. Standard psy-chill genre material.

2. Sneila - "We Breathe Air (Rmx)"
This is sounding pretty epic. Some pretty great squelchy synth sounds within. Still quite safe 'chill-out', but the melodies are less repetitive / a bit more imaginative than the last track. Better layering as well.

3. Essential Trip - "Portal"
Hmmmm.. I really don't know about this one... the first 3 minutes or so are exceptionally cheesey. The sounds are pretty bad as well. The rest of it isn't so bad, but doesn't really make up for it.

4. DJ Zen - "Dar A Luz (Indigo Version)"
Nice percussion sounds. Some of the synths could use some work though. Epic track at a little over 12 minutes. Pretty nice on the whole.

5. Psionyx - "Praetorius"
This sounds pretty nice. Very snappy snare drum. Still a little bit lo-fi I guess, but there's enough musicality to make up for it.

6. Essential Trip - "Rise"
Some pretty squawky synth sounds going on in here. Not really to my taste when I'm trying to relax, although that may not be the point of this track, as it seems to sit at above 130bpm somewhere. Still, the actual music's not bad.. something should really be done about some of those sounds though.

7. Aes Dana - "Happy Leary"
Ah so now we get to the sort of uptempo downtempo chill style end of the compilation? At least that's where this track & the last have been heading. This one is a lot better produced though. Some really crisp percussion & tinkly melodies, with the occasional zap or sparkle, all over quite a solid bassline.

8. Khetzal - "Sanctuaire"
I'm sorry but I'm just a little bit sick of this style of music. It's like it can't decide if it wants to be relaxing or dance-inspiring. It's OK to try to be both, but that buzzing, repetitive synth line over the top makes it almost impossible to relax to & to be honest it hurts my ears. I'm sure this is really heartfelt but please, you could've left out the buzz & this would be an effective track I'm sure.

9. DJ Zen Feat. Khetzal - "The Earth (Rmx)"
Well this is another epic track at over 13 minutes. Some nice recordings get things started. Sounds like monkeys yelping in the distance or something. This is a reasonably nice track, some good percussion, but the standout features are the recordings that make up the backdrop to it.

Well this is psy-chill, straight up and down. If you love the genre I guess you'll dig it, if you don't you probably won't. I personally didn't think it was that great. 6/10           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch
