Well, nowadys the music prodution is like 90% based on virtual instruments, that means you use the instrument virtually on your PC. They dont exist, but their real noise comes out from the PC speakers, got it ???
There are flutes, didgeridoos, pianos, organs, guitars, citaras(indian instrument very usual on ambient tracks), 1000s of drums(there are lots of tribals ones).
And of course there are real ones that are recorded too(like the 1200 mics & Shpongle flutes by Raja Ram). Guitars by Simon Posford on Celtic Cross. Lots of.
The differents, less usuals, are the citaras, the didge, the jambe(tribal drum), violins sometimes ...
There is too many of them,

As Pin sad there all these instruments used in the computer, but if you have the chance and conditions of making a "real" live act is great. Many times you can see some "bands" playing on the chill outs with the real instruments and it gives a different atmosphere to the place, you can see exactly from where the sounds are coming, it gives body to the music.
But that doesn´t mean that digital music is worst, the quality is almost the same, and it makes life so much easier. Can you imagine, the structure that you need to record a cd with all this analogic instruments? Digitally is easier, faster and cheaper....
And if you just want to know the names, look on the net, go into insrtumments stores and you are going to find kinds that you never imagined that exists....            Tempo é arte - Time is art
