Hi all!
I'm trying to make my first psy-ambient track, but can't tweak fat bassline sound like ones in Shulman, Entheogenic and Ott's tracks. What is the principle of creating this kind?

I could be wrong, but what you are hearing in some of the Shulman music is a combination of the F.A.T. freebass, precision monitoring and EQ, and some nice mastering work.

I like some of the sounds I am getting using thicker virtual analogue presets with the Frohmage filter, or a series of filters and FX chained together. I'm trying to do the same as you.           ELECTRON EYES / MARK-EVAN (NOR. CAL)

Sounds to me like a sine wave with some eq work. I might be wrong though.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

You can get nice bass notes like this with Reason subtractor (if you like Reason), tweak the Bass Guitar setting.

Many other programs will do this too, VStation can make some cool ambient bass sounds.

Eq'ing a sine wave is pointless because it's only contains one frequency, so you will only be able to control the overall volume of it with an eq.

Ive never heard Shulman or Entheogenic but OTT sound like a very overdrived saw wave into a lowpass filter to remove the high freq content. It could also be a sampled electric bass-wave.

Ott has used Trilogy a lot before; also all his sounds are compressed quite a few times before the final mix, which takes place on an analog mixer (at least on Blumenkraft and Hallucinogen in Dub). Apart from that, he has The Ears.

My advice is to start off with Trilogy, check out a few tube overdrive plugins, and use the best EQs you have to remove the top end after the tube.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Compression is also key. Check out Ott's blurb on compressing live bass that I posted here http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/15412/forum/2/start/58

I really like the Trilogy, especially the SH101 patch.

I believe the key to writing good ambient/psydub basslines is to keep the low end at the right volume - that means loud enough but not too loud and when the notes jump up in frequency they need to be EQ'd so as not to sound louder than the lower notes. It's an art though and I'm still learning.

Watch those transients!

DiMT>> Thats quite nice but i tink it would be hard to use it in a mix because its very "singing". I mean listen to the last note it really rings and i bet it would make your house shake if you had a big sub!

I also made an example. Not really trying to sound like OTT, Shulman or whatever just trying to make a nice sound:

www.steinholtz.dk/snd/sh101dubbass.mp3

It might have to much midfreqs. Dunno.
Man, its really hard to make a cool sub/dub bass!
