There's a million ways to do this, if you want something to start with try this:
Make a simple kick loop, say on 1 and 1.3. Add some percussion loop, maybe a hi hat or shaker in a nice sounding rhythm, but nothing too invasive. From there make a pad with some sweeping/swelling sounds. Add a rhythmic lead that compliments the kick, perc and pad. Add some fx to fill some gaps/provide a new sound. Rinse and repeat. Find a way to connect these elements to others.
Don't try to copy anyone's style. Make some sounds and find a way to arrange them that pleases you. http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
