Last night I got to see a Hallucinogen live and a Shpongle DJ set and I was, again, totally blown away by a new Shpongle track - one that Simon has been opening and closing his recent DJ sets with.
The track open with some operatic ethnic vocals, kicks into some very psychedelic mid-tempo breakbeat bliss, and has a ethno vocal "chorus" processed with a vocoder sound.
At first I guessed it has Turkish sounds and vocals.
After the show I asked him briefly about it and he said that he said it was an unreleased track that he made for the new Shpongle album, they went to India and recorded a bunch of live instruments and vocals. The track has no name yet, but stay tuned.
I consider it to be one of the best downbeat tracks I have ever heard in my life - easily as good, or better than most of the material on 'Are you Shpongled?' or 'Tales of the Inexpressible.' I hope the other material for the new Shpongle album is on theis level, it will be a real treat if it is! It definitely is coming from a fresh and inspired place.
Have any of you heard this track, or any other new material, in a Posford DJ set this year? What are your thoughts on it?

I hadn't known about the remixes of "All I Want" until I heard that track last night. Really liked that. Was happy to find it was an actual track I could buy from Twisted Downloads and not a mix I'd never hear again. I was really enjoying the show, but had to leave around 1:30 due to morning commitments. When did they play the new Shpongle track? Was that part of the opening Shpongle set he played? How late did the show run? |

I've seen the Shpongle set twice this year. Once he opened with the new Indian track, once he closed with it. |

Im having trouble believing that since when your searching for good samples to use, you more than often find one or a few samples that mr oh so fantasic has used in his tracks :)
Perhaps hes turned his producing manners, i dont know.

I looked on YouTube for the recent shows and I am not seeing it
I've heard this track twice and it totally made me freak. So much better than the Nothing Lasts stuff - it's more like a brave leap beyond the ethno-tribal spaces Tales of the Inexpressible. It's distinctly Shpongle.. it's the sound only they can make... distinctly groovier and more effortlessly complex than anything anyone else can make. I predict it will get overplayed out by chill DJs.. maybe even go quasi-mainsteam... once people get their hands on it.
It has a short instrumental intro... then the beginning interlude like a rather dramatic, classic Indian / Turkish opera (acapella) for 30 sec to a minute....then groovy beats and FX into a very pure Shpongleverse.. with a tripped out chorus in an infectious but unfamiliar sounding language processed through filters and FX.
Hope the whole album is consistent like this.. the bar has been set pretty high.
That's my take. Live for new music that really excites and inflames me!
