So we're 3 guys trying to form this electronic 'band' so to speak. We've been trying to figure out what kind of style of music to make but we all are using different platforms to produce music. We've kind of decided to work on Ableton Live even though none of know how to use it, but I suppose we'll get there sooner or later.
Now I don't know how many of you have tried this before, but how exactly do we go about producing music together? I've tried doing this with one person around and my ideas seem to shut down or I become more closed of a person when I have someone watching me. Ideas don't seem to flow and basically it just slows me down.
We're also using different OS's as well. While 2 of them are working on MACS, I'm using windows. Any suggestions on how to go about this?

hey buddy!
nice to know u guys are plannin to jam up together.
Who are the other 2?
So well to begin with..what are all three of yours strengths and weaknesses?
What is the setup you are thinking of when going on stage?
I reckon with abelton live you can throw in atleast 1 live instrument (so 1 guy can be dedicated for this purpose). His output can either be MIdI or Audio depending on the instrument and he should have the freedom to choose the sounds.
Next you need 1 guy to handle Abelton Live. He needs to be the person who knows all the samples and instruments in the computer and is good at at loading them and putting them in the mix. Can have a few dozen basslines and kick/percussion loops ready to keep the set going.
Incase no1 knows how to play an instrument then you 2 guys can split your signal into 2 stereo mixes and send it to the 3rd guy for final mix.
The third guy can act as an overview of what is happening, not really concerned about which particular melody or SFX is playing, he should take care of the overall mix and sort giving effects on the final mix. This can be done on a mixer or better routing the output of abelton to a fresh soundcard input of another computer. Thus, Mr. 3 can give breaks, effects and keep it crazy.
He can also have a backup of few of your own tracks and mix them in like a dj if you guys need to have breaks and reorganise your abelton live mixes.
Thats it i can think of right now. All the best!!!

@Aghori - The other 2 guys with me is a student who's just finished an engineering course from the US and is keen to start. Another friend of mine has a production studio in his house. Haven't seen it yet but supposed to have start of the art shit!
Thank you guys for the insight. I was quite clueless on how to begin with this but I'm starting to think in the right direction after reading what you guys have to stay. We basically are still strangers to each other, so figuring out strengths and weaknesses will take sometime. While I would like the psychdelic elements in my music, the other guys are more into Aphex Twin and like to mess around with percussion (one of my weaknesses). One of our guys is really good with playing the bass guitar, so I guess we could incorporate that to our set.
@Mesq - Thanks for the advice and videos. Great stuff going on there. I'll be messaging you soon for some more direction!

in order all 3 of u to make music together first thing is to find in what area is each of u stronger!
we are also 3 people in the group but each have some specific work to do (not that we dont do things that the other do but mainly specific things)
like im more into the mix and master and kick/bass leads department im stronger there.
my partner is into the fundamental basics of the track and arranging and my wife more into the melodie and soft side of things (altough not really active lately cos our son is full of energy and takes to much of her time).
that way each have a role and focus better on hes stuf than trying to do all the work on its own! also this provides some fresh pair of ears everytime the tracks go from one to the other.
but the biggest plus is that this way the music keeps its diversity and most of the tracks arent copies of the others achieving different styles in each composition and keeping interest throu out the creative process!
on stage things go pretty much the same way... im dancing and the other 2 work...
