hey guys..

i got to the point that i have some tracks... and i feel like playing alive for some friends.... or even in small parties...

the problem is that none of my tracks are mastered... so the question is:
what should i do to get them all to the same volume??

even if they are all not peaking, some of my tracks have lower volume on some frequencies than others... and im a little afraid of mixing them on some decent pa s and people end up noticing it...

so do u guys use any tools or plug ins that balance all the tracks for a live set? im using ableton live to play alive btw

I assume you load your tracks in Live as wavs? If so, just adjust the clip gain so that they sound the same in volume. Or you could do a quick master of them; run the wavs through a compressor/limiter, then load them in Live.           ________________________

additional to phobiums words,
you can put a compressor > limiter in the masterchannel of ableton, and maybe a software-analyzer to watch the frequences by eyes.

Another idea, this is how i do it:

Import all your unmastered wavs in soundforge/wavelab..Do a statistics analysis of the tracks to find out the average RMS..Suppose it's -16db for one track and -18db for another..

Now you need to decide what overall average RMS you want for your live..Supposing its -12db you then just subtract this number from each invidual tracks' RMS & use the result in your limiter..So for the 1st track you would pull down the threshold by 6db etc etc..

Hopefully this way at the end all the tracks will have the same average RMS..Hope this helps!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
