Alternating beats

I've found a really cool trick that keeps the beat from sounding too repetitive. I've noticed that a lot of other people who are just getting into trance tend to either just keep the same beat going until intervals, not playing with it at all. I don't want to sound like a douche or anything, it's just what I've noticed, and I'm not trying to sound like some high and mighty pro haha. I'm also new to making trance, or making music with ableton altogether, but I just thought I'd share what i noticed today. If you are using an eq8 on your kick to lower the mid's just to give it a different kind of punch, try having two of the same kick in different channels with different eq settings so that the one has low mids and the other doesn't, and if you throw some auto filters on both of them, try having one sound more closed than the other, then just alternate between them. i dunno, works for me, maybe you will find it useful. cheers

it is music, it should play and develop all the time, trance has rhythm too, that sounds fantastic with breaks and changes

Nice tip and interesting ideas Atreyu_D! Can you post some examples of what you say you're doing?

I like variations, it brings expressiveness to a track: as long as you can make it sound good!           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

of course it should develop all the time. just saying that for me it has to have a certain steadyness to keep the trance dance experience going (overly long breaks and those "stops" (mini-breaks every few bars or even the bassline just leaving out for one bar), that a lot of fullon in the last 1-2 years has totally breaks it for me).
also it totally depends on what you want to achieve with your music. for nitzchonot using different kicks in one track works great. but nitzho is more like fun, (at least a bit) shallow, party music, whereas psytrance (at least in theory) is supposed to be deeper, "trancier" stuff. i guess i'll stop ranting now . what works for you doesn't have to work for me and the other way round. good music is in the ear of the listener . i'd love to hear some examples of above mentioned trick.

Isn't Dernago's Tumult with plenty of kick and bass changes not deep?

But actually I meant rhythmical changes and shifts, rather then change of sample.

Put Filter Freak on rhytm mode and make some groovy shit with everything, pumping the same sound back and forth kills monotony of the same thing, or sidechain same shit with two different settings and ranges(mid/hi), same shit...alive again

Little changes in drum patterns is good thing, but too crazy stuff is like another track, catch me in beat and show me some cool things, but stay in this world
