Monitors and acoustics before everything else.

What do you need the mixer for? There are many kinds of mixers, all with different features.

congrats with the new gear coming! Stromberg mmmmmm looks hot!

about the mixer; i wouldnt do it, because its important to keep the signal chain short as possible, so the signal doesnt suffer to much going through poor circuits, adding unnecessary noise to your signal. (mixer in that price range probably will).

As i see it, you will be using the USB from the Snow synth, and 1 or 2 sets of stereo in from the stromberg, so unless you got loads of other stuff to record, then stick to what ou chose.

for the hands on, maybe you could get a fader controller instead? tascam made a large one i think           myspace.com/auralinvasion

congratz

get soundcard with more then 1 input and no need for mixer
think ceriously on monitors also - you need good "glasses" to "see" whats going on..

Well...Technically enough inputs for the equipment you want to route in which may be more than 2

I'll, what is it, 3rd the recommendation on good monitors being #1 priority!!!+!+3!

You'll spend years listening and learning something wrong and then have to relearn it all later when you finally get good monitors.
Just take the plunge and put aside something else for the time being.

well the problem is that for the next year the apartment I live in has very strict rules on noise... so I"m looking to probably use headphones at home... so I figure instead I'll get the hardware I want this year, and next year when I move back to my home town to a house I own I will build a better studio set up with good monitors... so maybe for now I"ll save up for a soundcard with enough inputs for my hardware... but this all kind of new building a studio so as much input as possible would be veyr handy... if you think you have good advice pm me and I"ll give you my email to correspond... so many ideas in my head waiting to bounce out bring back the old sounds for sure           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

unfortunatly i guess we won't see the stromberg in production for a looooong time.i hope i'm wrong in this because i really want one too but looking at how waldorf is taking care of the blofeld issue, the stromberg looks way too ambitious.

yeah... in the mean time I"m grabbing my x station an TI snow... depending on the Stromberg I might grab something else, like a second hand nord lead or something just to play with...           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

i wouldnt go and buy lots of hardware synths.. no matter how you hate softwares, soon or later you will use them, the virus cant do anything by his own!! you might want a good soft sampler and more possiblities from other soft synths\fx. anyway virus and novation are very good choices and i thinks thats enough.
like they told you before, monitors is the most important thing and psylevation couldnt say it better (maybe instead of the waldorf, save some money from now and get the best you can when you will have your own house). i use to have tons of synths and shitty speakers, and it didnt gave me much but good fun infront of many knobs.
im saying all that because i want you to get the most out of your money but if the budget allows you then get those synths and get a good monitors when you have your own house.
good luck and tell us what you decide

if you have good monitors you dont need to crank up the volume that much... producing on low volume is better than on high volume... so better go for those good monitors. imho.

yeah, good near field monitors and some basic acoustic treatment should be number one priority, specially if u need to produce with fidelity not volume..
i dont think u really need a mixer, since the synth ure getting suggest a nice mixerless aproach. try to get a really good soundcard with enough ins and outs. using x station as control surface ull have a very nice setup for in the box mixing, and i like that kinda zen aproach and ull make ur music making life less complicated.

nice!           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

yeah see the thing is the place I a;ready own back in Melbourne, I have a room that I'm going to get some professional help on to devleop into a proper small home studio... it's just that while I'm getting my new laptop + soundcard soon, I figure I might as well get to know the softwae (Cubase) and my X-station... in the mean time I'm putting so of my other cash into some investments, and into some savings accounts, and when I set up my new studio I should have a good $3000-4000 to spend on monitors, plus enough left over for the Stromberg when it comes out (but even then I"ll probably wait to see if it has bugs and how well they fix them)... so yeah, I'd rather wait for this year and use my headphone, and then have enought o get really nice monitors about this time next year, cos if I get monitors now I'll only be able to spen around $1000 , but 3 to 4 times that next year...           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

well the id suggest u put the biggest investment in real serious sudio interface.. MOTU 828 or RME fireface come to my mind. and a real nice set of headphones. so u wont get something ud only replace later.. also throwing a dsp card wouldnt hurt huh?

cheers.           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/
