Well, I really don't know if this qualifies as world music. I hope so..
Alpha Blondy is a reggea artist from Senegal. A man who has proven to be one of the best artists in this genre alongside Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. If you're a stranger to his sound try to find the album "Live au Zenith" released by EMI France. A superb live performance by him and his band The Solar System. One of the best reggae albums ever, imho. Just listen to "Jerusalem", "Masada", "Politiki" and "Come Back Jesus"... such feeling, such joy.. incredible!!!
I was fortunate enough to see them live last summer, in the reggea dedicated night of Paredes de Coura Festival, here in Portugal. The best live concert I have seen in my life (and I have seen a few, even from great internationally acclaimed artists).

nice thread, I love his music! my fav track from Alpha Blondy, apart from Jerusalem and Brigadier Sabari, is Bloodshed in Africa, the lyrics are so inspiring, real and powerful:

I love Alpha Blondi.
I saw him live here in Israel long time ago, in voices from the third world festival in 1988.
It was great. I have an interesting story to tell about something that happened to me with his music. Hopefully I'll have time to write it down here someday...

And it's the best place to live
but now..it's hard..but we'll fight
He's so great...I love his music...
so much I know that he had to come to Israel
but he canceled the concert
