The rationale: opinions change. Personally I'd like to be able to update older reviews I've made when my impressions become different. There are many times where I do not post a review because I suspect that I may change my mind in slight ways later on, and there would be no option to change my words.

I agree. But some people reciving albums as promo should listen to it more then once before writing a review. But yes, I agree.

PS. One could quote it and shange it. Just write above "EDIT".. you know man? Ja man, you know.

i think that what u sat down and took the time to write should be that. you can always return to a specific topic and write that your taste changed or that now you like one more the other or whatever the case may be.

I don't agree... I can listen to a promo 20 times over and then make a review, but give it a few months and taste can change. You guys have to realize I alter my reviews to write in notes about crowd response and such after sharing some tracks on the dancefloor... I think the path to higher-quality reviews lies in the edits; in dynamic content that reflects the times.

imagine an artist who will decide that his sound today is much better then 2 years ago (most artists i know)... according to what youre saying, they will go around collecting every cd ever sold/distributed/downloaded and redo it in better quality because now they are simply better....
doesnt make sense.
a moment in time is what it is in that specific time.... nothing needs to change retroactively.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Agree with Surrender, I think it's better to read the whole review topic and see if the reviewer opinion changed and in which way it changed.

As an example, this review by Surrender:
http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/58491/forum/9/start/15

His opinion changed 2 days after posting the review... It's useful info... Now we all know that his opinion changed, so maybe this is one of these albums we must listen a little more to be hooked (I got the album, my opinions are on the previous page).

There's no problem in adding info to the topic later.

I disagree with you basilisk and I have a few reasons.

1. The fact that your opinion has changed doesn't mean your old one was bad or incorrect. I think a progress of opinion is a very positive thing so you can just add a post saying that your opinion has changed with time.
2. It's dangerous to the flow of the topic. Let's say that for example you said something very bad about a CD and then changed it to good - all the following replies might become invalid / unclear / confusing.
3. I wish ppl to understand that they should stand behind what they say. Be responsible for what they post. Hopefully, this way ppl here will act maturely and responsibly.

all the above comments are general of course

The thing is that people are reading reviews - and buying CDs - in the present.

The best solution for everyone is probably to allow no edits, so I know I'm fighting a losing battle.

how about instead of providing an edit button you could provide a "ADD" button where the reviewer/poster could add whatever he feels like without modifying the original review and itcould look something like this
Quote:

Main Review text

"separation bar or something"

Aditional Notes -
Date, Time etc - "additional comments text"

what say?           New mixes on

To me looks like a post "glued" to another post... This will make the order of the posts in the topic go crazy... We loose the cronology of the thread. Why not just reply?

i didnt quite express myself correctly ....
.
.
.
Original post
.
seperator bar
.
EDIT - time, date - new comments if any..
.
this way people who read the review for the first time see how the reviewers opinion might have changed with time ...instead of scrolling down many pages to see what the reviewer has to say about the album at that current moment ....completely updated under the EDITS section ...

hope i made some sense this time           New mixes on

I think it's quite alright to write a post stating your change of taste. I do this often.

I fact, I like it when this happens, it actually shows something to the readers, artists, labels.

I can give an example that once I had an interview written about a compilation I released and and few days later, the writer wrote that after listening more and more he digged it much better. After a few more days, he said the CD really grew on him and he thinks it's excellent. This for me was a great feedback, as this compilation was really meant to grow on people and last long.

This can go the other way as well, of course...

Personally i would like to have the edit option simply to go back and fix a minor mistakes i seem to make, without having to disturb a mod to my dirty job. Thats why some places automaticaly add "edited time/date" stamps or at least give you the option to, when you have changed the content... another option would be simply to extend the 'edit' option of the messages to say.. half a day or something...

We had that and disabled it. It sucked big time.
