You need the best of both worlds..just use the computer for what it's really good at doing and use hardware for what the computer can't do.
Even if it comes down to just using your computer with a really basic and light sequencer and a midi interface with several outs for synths and samplers, it will be a lot cheaper, easier, and more effective than spending thousands on a decent hardware sequencer.
