so, i'm trying to go all hardware.
gear= emu xl-7 command station
Roland Mc-09
korg EMX-1
MS 2000B

so i know it's possible to get some nasty sounding psy out of this gear.
but damn me if all i'm crankin out is hard acid tech.

any suggestions on Hardware only psy. currently using a computer with ableton for samples, but i shall soon remedy that.

i suggest you buy a good sampler...maybe one with Sequencer incorporated.

I suggest go for a good one like Roland mv 8000 or Akay Mpc 5000. If they are too expensive you may try
Roland Sp 555. It's only about 500 Euro. With 2 giga memory card i think you can record up to 12 hours of good quality samples, and you can do all the tricks you want with it.

Good luck !

or is it possible to hook every synth the mc09? dont look that way....

im with darius, a sampler is good investment...

totally forgot my mixer!
peavy PV6

i sequencer off of the xl-7, rock solid sequencer with a great synth built in.

my reasons for wanting to go all hardware are fairly simple. i've used computers before and not had the best luck with them. crashing, being outdated, costing more in the long run trying to keep them running

i'm not totally opposed to using a computer, i'd would just prefer hardware, seeing as my computer is an 05 and becoming rapidly less useful.

also, for hardware sequencers, i've been looking at the ESM-1 and the Sp505. mainly for cost issues.

i'm poor....

dont get into that man if you dont have the money.. you got nice gear now, get a decent computer and a decent soundcard and start making music combine your hardware with the latest softwares.. after the psy synth you would need a compressor, and than a reverb and than a good delay etc... just get a computer...

sound advice.

it should be possible to sequence with my xl-7, and still run my gear through ableton or cubase to add effects, and still use VSTs and such i would imagine.

the computer in question is an P pavilion zv6000, 2g, dual core athelon 64. it's just been gigged with so much its getting alittle shotty.

still, the question stands as to hardware. i have no real problem with useing a computer for effects, but as the mainstay gear, i'm pretty dead set on hardware.
sequencer is apparently a must.

does everyone use computers for psy these days? i'd only hassle a psy forum if i hadn't been able to find anyone that uses strictly hardware. just curious how possible it is....

i think almost everybody use PC now...and of course for studio is the best choice...but also the idea for going live only with hardware is also very good and i suggest you go for it !

You can simply upload everything you do in studio with PC in hardware sampler and arrange them with a good sequencer or hardware workstation...

Everybody complain today why there are no real live acts...but when it's about investing money in some real equipment everybody say...buy a PC !!! that's stupid ! no offence to anybody !

If you wanna go with hardware i would suggest you to do it...today's trance scene really need some more acts like this.
So far i know only Atma who play only with hardware and no laptop at all on the stage...nobody else ! Maybe, you can contact him on myspace to ask some advices about how to build a nice hardware setup...he is a nice guy and for sure he will help you !

Why not get your self a good laptop? a nice soundcard and hook up the gear through the mixer and start having some fun

but if you have a vision and want to go all hardware, you should do it (in my opinion computer is also hardware )

good luck

I feel ya, some years ago I sold My G5 and Logic 7* for that reason and I bought a Roland MV8000 which is now the centerpoint of my studio.

If you like the Hardware way it might be the best solution since you can simply attach a VGA monitor and a mouse to it. Running Rocksolid and a special timing. Sample Cutting is the fastest way I know.

But be warned you have to be very aware about sample handling since you have max of 512MB Sample Memory BUT in RAM!

Loading times are quie long compared to computers but you usually do not have to load anything while being creative. You have even auto namingfor the samples. (Can give them custom names in a separate session

After samping you have them directly access-able on the pads and can even chop them into pieces.

The MV is made for sample musicians who like to resample.

If you have any questions let me know, you are welcome.

*(at this time it was very buggy all these sudden channel death issues and the G5 had that chrirp issue where it emmits a LOUD annoying high frequency, they swaped the psu 3 times after that i got a new one but with the same issue and lousy 1$ psu fans lol, It was all more about fixing problems than making music, now it's all about music and creativity)           http://facebook.com/ansolas

well a good reason to go all hardware would be to not have a computer screen/monitor to stare at all days...
