I'm thinking of buying these headphones, and have seen that they are recommended for both Dj'ing and listening. Would you say that these Sennheiser's are good to use in all fields? Music production, Dj'ing, listening ect? Only complaint I've heard so far is that they can get a little bit tight and tiring on your ears when used in longer periods. Any comments in general about Sennheiser HD 25-1, the best headphones for all-around usage known to man?

Thanks for the tips, peace.

I have those headphones and I love them. Smooth realistic sound with depth. Have used them a lot in normal listening activities. But still haven't tried to produce music with them. Their great for Dj'ing imo, but as you mentioned, they can get a little bit tiring after a while. This is also the case when watching a movie on my laptop with them, after one hour plus, my ears starts to hurt a bit.

Sweet to see that my headphones are good for homeproduction as well as Dj'ing since I'm concidering of starting a project that will set the world free from our self. I will make you giggle, kick and dream. Stay tuned. boing boing. I agree, cheerleaders will be attracted when you use your Senneheiser HD 25-1 oggabogga. Personally, I used to boing a cheerleader. I owe it all to my killer headphones. Good luck Ogga!

Thank you both, x.track and spytooned This made my decision easy as a prostitute. Also fun to see that your dreaming about setting the world free from it self psytones. I have the x.cact same dreams (see my ‘Cubase SX for dummies’ thread). Maybe one day we can even make a project together. 'X.tracting Oggabogga vibes with Spytooned Psytones' - Cheerleaders with nice cunts, here we come!

Ye, catch you on msn x.track. Psytones, I'll PM you my msn and we can shear psychedelic hippie dreams together.

.. Catch you both on the flip side, oh jeah!

I don't think Sennheiser HD 25-1 is a good choice for electronic music production, specially psytrance genre where the low freqs plays an important role.

More traditional DJs phone models - like Pioneer HDJ-1000, Sony V700-DJ and Technics RP-DH1200 - cover the low end better than HD-25 and probably any other Sennheiser model (I'm not criticizing Sennheiser - they are good phones for general listening and for acoustic music production). Also, take a look to Sony MDR-7506 and Audio-Technica ATH-D40fs, the latest offering very good lows for a small price. Contrary to the mass opnion, these models allow you to do 90% of your mix directly in phone, without a monitor (and studio monitors suffers the same problemas as HD 25: where is the low?)

I would recommend against headphones for producing. Two reasons:

1. Hearing Damage. It's much much easier to get to a dangerous level with headphones. Since no one is hearing, you don't care about other people in the house or neighbors or anything. It won't make your table vibrate and it won't reflect the volume compared to other things (even keypresses or mouse clicks). So you don't really know how loud it is - and therefore it's extremely dangerous.

2. The sound isn't really accurate... Psytrance is outdoor music destined to be played on speakers, not headphones. You don't really know how it sounds on headphones - this is why it sucks for producing, mixing, etc.

Hey dude, are you for real??? Please forgive me if I am mistaken here but it seems that you dont understand much about the topic u refer to... So if you do understand and will explain it better then I hope u will forgive me for being blunt

First of all all frequencies are very important in music production. And if u care so much about the low frequencies I wouldnt produce with headphones at all, and if already I had no choice I would go for the studio types ( that actually have even less bass than the already overpumped with bass DJ models, that you wrote in your post ) but those studio models give much more accurate stereo image of the track, and also balance quite well between the lows and the highs - for future reference try to look for some AKG models I think they produce some decent studio monitoring headphones.

HD 25 are TOTALLY not for home listening dude... and surely not for acoustic music - where did u get this info mate Those headphones are very good for DJ usage as they block out external noise very well and are very comfortable to wear. Another high plus about them is that unlike other major brands, they have replaceable parts for sale, so they last longer this way.

Finally in my opinion, HD 25 are definitely the best DJ headphones I have used up till now.

No problem. The best method is to listen and compare. Without this, compare at least the dynamic range of various phones and sonoflectors. What you said about overpumped bass is the more dynamic range of these phones. But, truth emphasis and overpumping bass is what is produced by a phone like AKG K-55, featuring "turbo-bass" (and to be honest a good choice if you lack a subwoofer in your studio to compensante the lack of low freqs in the monitor). Lows is where the energy is concentrate on psytrance genre, and one of the most difficult things to mix in all genres. Yeah, for some genres there's no difficult: just cut with a high-pass filter. That is not the case with psy. Even rock isn't so simple (and some rock batterists tend to use shakes to compensate things).

About HD25, I did not call it a crap shit and never said it cannot be used for general music production and even psytrance production. Although I prefer to insist one more time: isn't a good choice for psytrance. At least not what I personally use for this. And about using HD25 for listening. Well, I use a pair of Alesis M1 Active MkII for simple home listening and for plaing children music for my son. So, I did not understand your complaint here. Use what you feel confortable, can afford and be happy.

Finally, about mixing in phones... Well, Gabe, from Wrecked Machines, mix in phone too. So, what? :)
