R u guys happy with the saturation of the alien303?
Its like my bass in the low end becomes 1 big HUM instead of 3 tight basses.

I've seen better envelope controls on cheaper synths.
better saturation with tesslaSE.
If you ask me, its not for pros

I know plenty of producers who use Alien303 and love it. It's a very simple way to create bass that requires very little work. You can get very very good sounding bass out of it if you know how (proper eqing helps). http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I know of a couple pros that use it. I haven't used it myself but I planned on trying it out.
When you put distortion on a sound it boosts harmonics and makes them more audible. Whats probably happening is that you have a tail mixing in with the beginning that you can't hear until you add distortion.
Just mess with the envelopes like stated above.

propper uq will do the trick, in the domestic threath, they talk about good eq plugins for the bass ,and some tips on how to eq.
I think is my favorite vst right now

I do EQ some unwanten high resonating frequencies from it..
I still would like to get better control of envelopes.

i prefer a lot cronox than alien
Cause its really really more stable than alien despite than alien has more waveforms and good distortion i dont like its sound, neither with eq because i think it pushes down the brilliance of the bass |

cut the sub and resonances
train your ear to know wich freq and what to do with them
on alien mostly arround 100,220-280,450-500htz....
and dont pick up the sustain too much
try using the "Q" eq defalut from cubase/nuendo to cut the subs and resonances on alien bassline,i personaly like it..

there is lot to cut, the oscillator is not clean,maybe some make great bassline with it but it sound shit without processing |
