serotonot i can make a bass from regular snare also , and also from pad or from another drum.
I am talking about bass instruments and instruments which created to make basses.
Albino - not created to make basslines.

Te_nTe, Albino can produce some great basses...
of course it´s not made for just creating basses, but why should that care? a synth can produce many different sounds, it all depends on how much parameters it has too alter, and your imagination, in short.

vb1 and tau and vsts to make basslines,
at least vb1 u can donload for free, not sure about tau...
About alien project astrix and atomic pulse...im pretty sure they use the VB1 for the base...with lots of eq and compressing...try lowering quite heavily the high frequencies of it...
just for a test and to get the idea, try to hi-cut everything above 500hz with the vb1, im pretty sure you'll recognize it then...but its not the best approach to cut everything, theres some important frequencies in the rest, but do it just for test, to listen to it without that anoying click it does...

I think cutting above 500hz its too much. try to leave more mid in your bass so you can hear it and not just feel it. a bass need a little punch! well, in fullon..
