I've heard people rave about trillian. I'm only going to produce psytrance. Do i really need trillian or can I achieve pro sounding results with A303?

Please tell me.           "Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth."

trillian for sure, since you cant program your own stuff in alien and it doesnt even have a proper filter envelope, which is pretty much the key to a solid bassline. or you could use sylenth, if you happen to have it

get a synth you like, i recommend sylenth as well, and learn how to make bass with it. It'll sound way better once you get the hang of it, and you'll have more control of the bass sound itself with it.

With psy, you're going to be tweaking everything in a synth anyway so why not just use a pro one instead of Alien303.

That said, a lot of producers do use Alien303 and it can work if you have a song that matches its sound, but not all songs do. A synth will give you more freeedom. And freedom is good.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

My recently released EP Yawning was made exclusively with Alien 303 for bassline, I now have Trillian and I like it more.           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

I myself have used alien 303 its not that bad, but i do agree to use a solid synth in most cases. but the alien 303 is good for beginning or for the particular sounds. but Albino, Sylenth, are two REALLY good all around synths! good for anything really however from what i have heard in tracks and on forums... Trillian is a beast and is one of the #1 "bass" oriented synths avalible. =D i myself cant wait to use it           http://soundcloud.com/brentmalik

Sylenth is a must have. I have Sylenth. I haven't been able to model a good full on bass or a dark bass with it. Would someone be able to provide me with a patch or atleast tell me how to model it.           "Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth."

I like very lot of how Trilian sounds, but how u people deal with those constantly changing filters? I mean that when u try to do the normal kbbb, the filter is kinda moving and doesn't really give a monotonic beat for bassline.

eh?
Sounds the same on every note to me when I use it.
You sure all the note velocities are the same, no LFO mod on the filter...etc is taking place?

Peace out.

what i dont like is the sample dont start well on all notes, a bass that sound great on F key can totally sux in G for example cause of that sample start thing.., i tried to route the sample start to key tracking, it worked a bit better but still not a proper solution to me to have a bass that sound great on all notes, maybe we should have used a other synth sample...maybe the problem was just specific to that synth saw sample.. we had to sample all notes with proper sample start.

Yep, some keys don't sound as good as others. I think its a general flaw of sample based synths, and/or not sampling every single note individually...dunno really.
It is when this happens that I either choose a different Trillian patch, or just go for the trusted ES-1 and EXS24 bass patches.

Peace.

No lfo or velocity, it just seems too random... U can hear it clearly when stretching midi notes longer, or pulling more bpm. Of course one could bounce a short section of bassline and find the best sounding key and use that... btw, could this somehow being related to retrigger?

Try it out, although I don't remember messing with any re-trigger parameters.

Don't mean to spam but here's a tune with Trillian running in real time, on bassline duty.

Unless I am going deaf, every note sounds the same?

Peace out.
