hi PoM, i think you should try it out in a store near you if there is one. try to program some common sounds, basses, strings, leads and some fx sounds. if you like them and if you like the way of the interface of the synth (does it work with your workflow?) then why not buy it?

all the best

ok my word on this is based from having the same engine but in a smaller box.. I got the micron a few weeks ago.. The soundscaping possibilities are huge.. for wierd effects and pads it sound gorgeous.. for leads, yes it does them well.. for good basses, nah forget it...

but all in all its good, powerful effects etc...

Definately get the ion over the micron though as programming this is a nightmare...

concerniong the softyware editor for the micron.. I havent found one yet, there is some talk on the internet about creating one, .. the big problem being that it doesnt operate on normal midi contoller numbers, but nrpns instead, which are a different code... so i think development is a little slow...

to be honest I would reccommend to get your hands on a virus as programming is a lot easier and more fun...
although they do completment each other very well if you can afford to have them both its a nice mix...
just a shame you cant control it from your normal midi controller...

Honestly you can use any synth for psytrance or anyother music even Casio or Nintendo, it really depends what you can do with each sound. ALthough some synths are designed for Acid alike melodies and leads while Ion is not one of them(|eventhou it contain some TB303 emulation). Ion is more 70'-80' alike synth for POP and other not that electronic music.

It's up to you but i will go with known brands like Access or Clavia if it comes to buy a synth.
