I'm talking about those albums that you thought upon first hearing them, "WTF IS THIS?!?!" They sounded like nothing being produced at the time, and were light-years ahead of everything else. Most of these albums required repeated listens for me to actually enjoy them, since they were so different from everything else. Anyways, here's mine (the info in the parentheses give my reasoning behind why these albums kicked my ass):
Hallucinogen - Twisted (production)
Astral Projection - Trust in Trance (melodies)
Green Nuns of the Revolution - Rock Bitch Mafia (acid hurricane)
Dimension 5 - Transdimensional (space-techno)
Pleiadians - I.F.O. (maximal goa)
Koxbox - Dragon Tales (less layers, more psychedelic)
Hux Flux - Cryptic Crunch (fx)
X-Dream - Radio (techno + psytrance)
Aavepyörä - Elektro Fluoro Punx (arcade goa)
Derango - Tumult (mind fuck)
Yep, the last time my ass got kicked by an album was in 2005. Someone, please point me in the direction of my next ass kicking! I'm getting tired of waiting... |

It'd be cool if you guys explained WHY these albums kicked your asses!
Anyways, I'd say Xenomorph - Cassandra's Nightmare kicked my ass more than Qlippoth. I didn't know how dark goa could get until that album.
Haltya - Forest Flavour is another good example, but I wouldn't say it kicked my ass as much as the other albums that I listed. Forest trance had been around for a while, and they just added an awesome disco/jazz/finnish/holy crap element to it! Definitely one of my favorite albums though. |
