why didnt you make two soundcloud examples?
cause the soundcloud version is better quality so its easier to say that the live version is better.

So in this case Live version is way better, Can you remember what you did? And can you tell me how you play live? would be very interesting to hear about your setup, and if it have failed you anytime, and what computer you use, and is the whole "set" set to one and same tempo or do you use tempotrack?

Peace

I am not into launching clips in ableton, actually I'll rephrase, the idea of launching clips does not appeal to me, as I haven't actually done it yet + ES2 and the analog synth instruments I have in EXS24 and use heavily in our music, are Logic native.
Our live set consists an awful lot of work in the studio in order to make the live mix of each tune, i.e. remix our own tracks...this can go from simply mixing down again old tunes, replacing the old kicks and basslines with better sounding ones, reEQ leads, put some extra FX in, to going off on one and writting a complete new riff that is not existent in the album versions. After that, I bounce the whole thing down.
The put each live version tune in the live set arrangement and then arrange and automate them in and out in order to do a smooth change between tunes, then automate the tempo changes to suit different tunes and in order for the midi files, FX delay times and synced flanger/chorus/phase LFOs to sync to the current tune tempo, so whatever synth line I am playing over live, sounds on time. Then I have a bunch of software instrument tracks, loaded up with synth drone patches with no midi files, were I just jam lines in where the slow(er) attack times mean they don’t have to be quantised and will sound fine when I trigger them live, then a whole bunch of sampler instruments with vox, drum loops that we filter in and out, FX on the master channel for DJ style tricks...there are a lot of things to remember, so I just write the info on the regions (even the ones with no midi date in them) with notes/scales of tunes and general things we should not forget.
In that way I have 0 access at the order of the tunes, our live set order is predetermined. I cannot import loops on the fly, its kinda like the old school way where people would have a DAT/ADAT/HDD playing back the mixes made in the studio and then have fun jamming over.
The new stuff I want to bring in the live set in a small 8channel mixer to fit a drumpad (I have the Roland SPD-S) and a small modular analog synth for FX (planning on getting the Doepfer Dark Energy), cause I always dreamed of patching cables in an analog modular, live on stage.

For absolute disasters we have a CD of the live set in the CDJs, in case the mac crashes so we can push the fader up and restart the mac without ruining the people's groove. Something we haven't had to do so far *knock on wood*.

Peace out.

Yep Athens, Greece. Loved Wizzy in the Acid Level 33 era. Greece's finest export in psy-trance

Cool yes i love many of their tracks! good flow and sweet sounds, and nice production, the dynamic level is perfect on Tropic Remedy

Btw have you tried fiddling with ableton live? Its quite cool and you can infact mix your style of working right now but have the powers of triggering loops and adding midi sequences to trigger with your hardware synths, also, think of it, having some midi clips, and looping one, twisting knobs on a synth, then trigger a second one ontop routed to the same synth, or just stop the first sequence and have the other midi sequence get triggered in perfect timing.

Try it out, its no longer learning curve than a day or two to get the most basic insight...

I did this, but on a machine i had nothing else but ableton so i had to learn my way around. Still im a big noob in it, but its very fun, and you could import your audio files from a project and build the track, or even trigger loops and record to the arrangement, thats a wicked feature..
