I have albino 2!

Me too, i prefer Nro. 2, more unique and raw sound when Nro. 3 is a bit softer.. with nro 2 you can make very cool acidlines and lead sounds on top of the pads.

it's basically the same I think.
I tested some patches on 2 and 3.0.2 (not the latest version.) and some sound crispier and full on 3. more wide too.
2 doesnt open all patches made in 3. and if it does they sound different, because not all settings are there.

I liked version 3 more, because of the comb filter, mostly.

but the actual code of the instrument is more due to the efforts on LinPlug then Rob's. he's not really a programmer, but a sound designer and a synth guru: he selects some features he'd like to have on an instrument and then tests those features and the interface, so that the programmers have his claims in mind and deliver something that's thought out to please musicians.

what I'm saying is: that and the presets are all that he's done for Albino. to my mind, the guy at LinPlug is the one to credit for when it comes to the sound...

when they decided to discontinue it, LinPlug announced a new instrument that would be able to read Albino's patches, only up until Rob demanded (legaly) that his precious presets can't run on a new machine.

anyway, there's a new one from LinPlug (think in beta testing phase) that has some structure similarities to Albino:

this one!

Albino 3 was and is a great synth. If it wasn't 32-bit (and therefore fucking with my RAM on 64-bit logic) I'd still use it all the time.

It's my "I can program any sound on this" synth. The mod matrix is unrivaled (4 layers deep recursive mods anyone?), the FM sounds fantastic (wavetable FM anyone?), the filter saturation is fun and #3 is downright fucking nasty, some of the wavetables on their own are great (spectral saw #2!), the envelopes and LFOs are insanely customizable....

Omnisphere is my workhorse these days but it doesn't touch Albino 3 in terms of sheer "Oh you want that sound? Tweak tweak, here you go."           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut

prior to it being discontinued, it was made 64 bit ready in one of the latest updates. wish this didn't happen, would be nice to get a new Albino with ZDF filters, unisson and having the fx parameters available as destinations for modulation, like on the Virus. An EQ wouldn't hurt either, along with faster LFO's that could go into audio-rate territory. but it's damn good as it is, but the day will come when nobody will use it.

there's nothing in either Rob Papen or LinPlug's catalog that comes close to this, maybe this new one from LinPlug is the closest we'll get, bet it just doesn't load Albino presets because of legal issues with Rob!

still love albino a lot.
very versatile and lovely to work with.
a shame really to end it. i always waited for an update to new filters and higher end fx.
all other linplug synths fall way off imho (not that i knew them all in detail though).           http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/stereofeld-frequenzwechsel

Yes, albino is very underrated because the factory presets dont make it justice... it sound better than it apears at firts glance.

i think Z3ta+ and Albino have a very good sound and they are light as hell, i certainly recomend them

z3ta+
Synth1
Albino 3

excelent choises as all in one Synthesizers

yep, I think Zebra 2 also ranks high as a "bread-and-butter" synthesizer with a lot of depth to it! And so does Diversion!

Yeah, my roommate just picked up Logic and is going to start producing some - a former Ableton user and a DJ.

Logic's native synths are phat but he'll need something in the "I could program any sound with this" synth category; Albino 3 was that synth for me.           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut
