great headphones.
I would even recomend the k271s which are pretty closed - can't hear anything while playing something in them.

A frontline mix must be done with monitors imoh.
a stereo image and little details mixes should be done with the headphones.
that's how I do it anyway

ONe thing i wanted to ask reagrding this...
I want to get the k271, or the k240, but i have active monitors, so i don't have amplifier....do i need an amplifier? or can I connect them directly to the soundcard out jacks, with some special cable?
I really need to buy them asap at the moment I'm leaving on my own, but soon i'll move to live with some friends, I don't think they would be very pleased with my 23hr/day bang bang! hehe

you should have a proper headphone output. The soundcard direct output is pretty quiet.

When we talk about mastering here on forum most of us mean to nearfield monitoring.
although nearfield monitoring is the 95% of work, and you can do it with headphones like AKG's , there is a catch.
you cant do all the mix only on akg because you will have problems with the lows , by the way you can have a same problem with your nearfield monitors(these we use).
The best is to have a pair of BIG mackies which provide good lows on good volume - but money talks here - we are not in big studio.
in simple words - the akg's are not enough to master a track. |

Wich is the difference of active and passive monitors, and why do you need an amplifier to use them (headphones)?
