I use Mpc 500 in my studio . I usually use it to write drum patterns , also like the slider for various pitch shifting and stuff, has cool effects too. Imo its good to write loop patterns and then export to main sequencer , however writing full psytrance tracks of 250+ bars can be very tiresome. I have a plan to write a liveset on it but need time hehe.. Its very inspirational none theless and mobile too

it's a great piece of hardware and i used it for a long time to sequence my gear and to play samples. (it's just made for those 2 purposes)
the sequencer is very powerful and with JJOS you can enter/record and modify melodies and automate CCs nearly as easy as in your DAW, but it can become really tiresome when it comes to breaks, variations in patterns and sample-editing.
especially for editing your audio you'd better use software for it.
next thing is, apart from the MPC you need hardware synths, professional outboard-gear and a great multitrack-recorder to really _produce_ pro-tracks.
for that money you could buy a couple of super computers and actually produce with them.
i'd always suggest, if you want to _produce_, get a powerfull PC (or mac), maybe a couple of great external synths and a pro audio-interface, but stay software for your recording/mixing/mastering.
if you want to jam and/or play live like they did in the past, then buy good hardware, learn it and play, but accept the restriction and the price. |
