Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone is using this piece of hardware and what uses you are giving it. I bought it used about two years ago and only use it during live acts to tweak synth lines... but was wondering if passing some VSTs through it and recording analogue input would add some wamth to the track or just mess the quality of the sound? I record with a MOTU ultralite.

Thanks!

i guess it depends on the circuitry and on your setup!

it's rare that just running a signal through a piece of gear makes it sound hugely better... if you have really good pre-amps and the Akai has a nice characterful gain stage then it might be good, but i'd guess that you'd need to either use the filter itself or its drive (if it has one) to get audible results.

i haven't heard one in action, but chances are the Akai's filter will sound better than most plugins, so it's probably worth running some VSTis through it just to experiment!

must also be fun for drum loops
