I've been considering getting this toy for use with my Virus TI and Ableton for live performance.
I'm curious as to the compatibility of the two. Is it easy to assign EWI controls to the Virus through Virus Control? Would this pair have good potential?

cool! I just got one two days ago, and love it. The included sounds are pretty good, and I've been able to do some interesting things using it as a midi controller with other VSTi's. It will take some getting use to for me though, since it handles a bit different than playing a regular instrument like a sax, etc. (I started out on sax).
Because the keys are touch sensitive and electric, they react very quickly to your movements. This can make it sound like you're playing extra notes. However, you can control the key delay, and setting this a little higher will stop this problem from happening.
You can also program the bite control to effect cutoff frequency, and things like that.
Deffinately something to consider IMO. I'm not sure what to tell you specifically about using it with virus control, but it basically is a midi controller, so I wouldn't see why you'd have any problems with it.

You can set it up for different fingerings such as recorder, sax, trumpet etc. but it's about the size and shape of a clarinet. And it's a midi controller.
Thanks for the feedback

well, Michael Brecker is one of the more famous people to use the EWI, which is the full synth version that AKAI released a while ago. He's a pretty well know jazz sax player (if you don't already know). He's not the only sax player to go electric with the EWI either. It's kind of thought of as an electric sax, and is about the same size as a soprano sax..... but essentially you'd be right, since the clarinet is also about the same size.
