Hi guys,
I'm trying to make my first steps into psytrance production here, after qome years of tech- and house producing, and i have a serious problem: I fail to make the most important thing in psy production (imho): the aggressive sequences.
Now i have an external sequencer, future retro mobius, and just by pinning the 16 steps i can't make the sequences work, they are just lifeless if you know what i mean.
So how do these sequences get made then? by using a 16-step gater or something? Or is it just a matter of getting the right synth?
Thanks for helping,
grtz |

Short notes and sharp attack, very little release, and probably saw-waveform..
some detuning for spice...
really i dont have a clue which sound or sequence you are refering to
a example would be nice...

I can't really...post a sample (i don't have space on the web).
I'm sure everyone here knows the sequences tough, some examples:
cpu-kung fu 6.40
Astrix-coolio (infected remix) 4.14
Dimitri nakov & intergalactic-grand prix 3.19
...and so on, just about every psy song has one or more of these lines...

try this:
find a progression of notes, best take a chord progression and use single notes.
now if you got a hook melody, shorten the notes to 1/16 or 1/32. find the base of the chord and fill the gaps with the fundamental note. now you can use half tone steps for spicing it up, bending in some notes. you can use some short 1/64 notes to let some of the hook melody notes roll in.
velocity is also good for putting accents and as always use tons of automation for filters, little detune on an lfo. try velocity -> filter cutoff and such stuff to make things interesting.
this might be a complete different method but I find these melodies aggressive.

the pacemaker - use yousentit to upload a small snippet of what you are talking about please.
Are you not describing an Arpeggiator?
sideFXed - I do that too what you describe with good results.

This is definitely worth a try, gonna try it next monday in the studio.
thanks mate
ps psymatika: it is indeed a form of arpeggiating, only with some notes left out. |
