Still trying to process all that happened, still filled with that pure love energy. my emotions flow through in words...
"Synesthesia"
Noisy rhythmic cycles
pulse into thick nitescapes
dripping heat
writhing energy,
the ground breathes mystery
and the flies are on fire.
Scry into darkness
vast caverns of mind
soul
body
interpreting dreams
in oceans of sound.
Pure vibrations of the Goddess
escape modern circuitry
penetrate open heart chakras
burn away veils of illusion.
Electric summer heat
liquefies physicality,
crystals form anew under
the weight of our dance.
Our bodies find equilibrium
with cosmic frequencies
bathed in luminescent moonlight
(Y La Luna es muy fuerte!!),
embraced by secret fire.
The spell we weave
opens a universal rift,
energy swirling
burrowing into
once sealed crevices
rising up
igniting every sense,
replacing loss
with infinite gratitude.
With every beat - intensity.
with every tear - humility.
with every smile - vitality.
Bent limbs
stirring the cauldron,
casting a powerful spell -
learning to love again.
We are the answer we seek
the solution we conspire towards -
empowered to create our desire,
transcending boundaries
imposed by earthly flesh
transforming the ether -
shining beings arise!
Dawn opens her eyes to
new hope
new inspiration,
exhaling
raw
potential
unity
power
light
love
peace
embodied in a single tone
Aaaaauuuuummmmmmmmmm.

you got to be kidding me??? Very sorry i missed this feat.
3 is hard, 4 insane, 5... whoa .. thats like some Qbert type shit...., but with psy.... impressive
and those Burittos were the bomb diggity. Really some of the best on site party food ive had
and while i dont want to get into this what is psychedelic debate....
High BPMS do not mean something is more psychedelic. There is some crazy, moody, glitchy IDM out there that i think kicks the hell out of the deepest crazyiest neuro in levels of psychedelia, because after all, even 180 bpm neuro is still built on and hence confined to the 4/4 time signature. If it wasnt, it wouldnt be trance anymore.
but in the end its all relative
and Barney pitched down to -85.0 with the cdj tempo on wide, would blow anything out of the water

Psylent Pulse on saturday night had six decks going at all times ....i love layering the sounds like that very fun stuff!!! I swear i saw you in the booth that night lawrence??? hehehe who knows we were all just grooving warbling bodies it coulda been my imagination! |

So now as i sit in my car reading the rest of these posts...i feel it washing over me again ..AUUUMMMM and all it has come to mean to me and all of the other people who participated in this experience...i too have more thank you than you can shake a stick at..for those who crossed the threshold and took a leap of faith bringing themselves and their hope, dreams, energy, beats, bodies, friends, visions, love, helping hands, hearts and dancing shoes alllllll the way to eureka springs arkansas i send you my most sincere gratitude for without you there would be no experience. I feel so deeply bound to Megan ( yes my sweet sister we are stuck together now in soul connection for sure and I miss you ), Dylan, Jamie, Jeff Z, Jason, Lou, Yulia, Kevin, K Fire, Leila, Toshiba, Dmitry, Don, Jake, Jeremy, Mukti, Adrienne and so so many more that my heart overflows everytime i reflect on this past week! We did this together and under very strange unfamiliar circumstances in the gorgeous hills of Arkansas. Ultimately though this event belongs to us all and it really felt like that not once did i leave our camp without atleast 4 or 5 offers of help in whatever i was doing along the way. People realized that this was set up to welcome them home to experience the greater tribe and ran with that concept. Did anyone know that along the way we even bailed out our dear friend who got arrested in oklahoma? What a tribe we are! I am proud to be a part of this great spiderweb of trance that grows across our country. Thank you to the landowner who with out a blink of an eye let his neighbors know how important this gathering was and how far we had all travelled and asked them to get out their earplugs for a few days in support of AUM. Thank you to the everpresent and always smiling yulia who became central to our getting things done and fed us all along with Daia who is not only a great artist but an amazing cook....Thank you to the people who held ritual space every night before the first beat dropped....thank you to the Time Bandits who altered time on Thursday night while making us all smile! ( see ya at World Bridge 2) Thank you to the food vendors who blessed us with healthy nourishment and smiles the whole weekend...thank you to Lizza for making me laugh when i busted my arse on the dancefloor .... whew i could go on forever so let me finish by saying that i second megan and feel inspired not only by this event by megan herself who warmed my heart and never left my side while we organized the chaos into a dull roar that made some kinda sense...thank you.... Oh and I almost forgot thank you to Jeremy aka solomon for having the insight to offer help with our next line up rather than complain about this one! You are a rock! |

It's a bit overdue, but between scrambling to visit the rest of my family, scrub my ferret, fly my monkey-ass back to Japan, and relocate my marbles (thanks be to Shiva for the psychedelic lost and found), I’ve had nary a minute to get out my thoughts on AUM… so here goes.
Location:
Being an Arkansas native I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the High Council had chosen our little Altered State as the site for what would shape up to be on the of most twisted hoe-downs (or was it a hootenanny?) that I can remember participating in on US soil. Indeed, Northwest Arkansas is geographically about as centrally located as it gets. I was also happy to see that Eureka Springs was tagged as the official mass-abduction site. It's a relatively kind town as far as kind towns go and one of the better spots for facilitating the fest IMHO. I hadn’t had a chance to party at the Eureka Springs Music Park (almost all psytrance events had been located at Thee Sacred Hog Ridge Hollow there forth, all praises be) and I was stunned by the infrastructure and amenities available.
Highest on the list was the infinite flow of super-clean Ozark mountain water piping through the ground. I cannot remember a time when I didn't have a Nalgene full of the goodness and my kidneys were kept accordingly happy throughout AUM. Clear pissin’, seldom missin’. Showers were great as well. (Anyone who saw the blue squeeze bottle with Japanese writing all over it: that was shampoo. All apologies to anyone trying to whack off with it thinking it was lotion or something).
Sound was crispity and crunchety as usual thanks to the resident Esoteric sound-wizard at the helm: Jason Sterling. Could’ve used a little more volume at the beginning but I understand that not miffing the kind locals was a priority. The chill area actually played host to my favorite set of speaks… I miss hearing those ring out across the Hollow… So clean.
The Deco:
Outstanding submissions from so many talented artists! Thanks to all involved for bringing down their brainchildren to share with everyone. The sheer size of the main tapestries was what delighted me the most. I also liked the fact that they were arranged in a ring around the main flancedoor, creating sort of a sacred space and a designated freak-out area. When you were inside the circle, it was clear that it was time to get down and if you needed a little dose of (pseudo) reality, you could head outside and get your head level. Im really not sure who all of the artists were, but thanks to Kelly Pyite for his heady submissions and the hilarious story about the Gil party (glad everything survived).
The absolute most incredible piece of art I saw was the framed stringart installation brought down by the Colorado delegation. Apparently Boo (sp?) lovingly crafts the designs based upon revelations which come to her in dreams. And what a dreamlike piece it was. I hope you were able to find all the yarn needed. The end result was nothing short of amazing… with the four parabola on the edges acting as a stabilizing force for an imploding, ghostly, green galaxy. Thanks for all of your hard work.
The Music:
On the whole, the music presented at AUM was sheer insanity. It was a treat getting to take in set after set of sounds that displayed the variety of psychedelic sub-genres that can be heard within the borders of the continental US (and beyond). In my opinion, after having attended various events in the States over the years, everyone has really stepped up their respective games. Some serious shit was brought to the table at AUM for sure. Having been away for a year I was psyched to have a chance to hear several up-and-comers who started really playing out lots after I had left.
Dragon – I was really, really impressed by your original stuff. It far exceeded my expectations, mainly because I hadn’t really heard that much prior to the gig. I felt like was soaking up some sort of deranged hybrid of Penta/Deviant Species/Pondscum… There were some really interesting textures and progressions that I was pleased to hear coming from the mind of one of my most respected partners in the Southern-Fried Psy-Society. Thanks for sharing.
Goaneck – Back in action once again to lay down the twisted fear, double fisted ‘pon tha beer, with nothing short of the psychotic psychedelic smear. Thanks for bringing to the forefront the oft-swept-under-the-table hootenanny/hoedown debate. I had a great time talking, chilling, and catching up. Hope you enjoyed having your ice-chest restocked before you had my dome-piece rocked.
Vampyromorpha – Thanks for the sick set of some Texan-hexin’ and all of the funny conversation. I know you tried your hardest to keep that poor bastard from plunging into the hole in the cave… He should have listened to the words of wisdom from the vampire bat changeling himself!
Facehead was definitely one of my highlights. Amazingly creative and crisp. Despite the relatively low volume level, Chucks stuff created a veritable playground for my imagination and really explored some new territory for psytrance IMO. Cant wait to hear more man. Also really blown away by the dexterity with which this man handles his Abelton. You put together a really solid track in just an hour or so in the AC room. Thanks for the music and the madness. You’re a class act.
Dean Onnomon was great fun as usual. It has been a few years since Ive heard him and the trickles of new material weren’t enough to satisfy my thirst for his signature funkadelic sound. I was actually engaged in too many conversations during his set to fully slip into the Onnomode, but it was a great, smooth groove for that time of the morning to be sure. All that from a five-year-old Mac. Think different indeed.

Aktif and Collision: Dudes, I had asked a girl (who shall remain shameless) to wake me up when the shit got going on Saturday night and she failed me miserably. By the time I had rubbed the sweaty, psychedelic sleep from my eyes and ambled my way out of the (at that time freezing cold) air-conditioned hide-a-way, I made it to the floor just in time to catch your last five or six tunes. But it certainly had the crowd going mad! I wish I could have witnessed your epic set(s) at Gemini as well. I am certain that Ill have another chance to hear you dudes before too long.
Fragee and She-dom: The psy-namic duo returned to burn away the veils of what we call reality. You guys had a couple people literally in tears after certain drops… Fatty Acid about had an aneurysm after you guys’ set. My only regret is that the vinyl didn't make its way out of the library. Would have been cool to hear some of those signature soul-shearing screamers from the original era. Some of the conversations I had with both of your guys throughout the week were far and away the most meaningful, psychedelic, and of course, hilarious for me. It was so good to (kind of) catch up. Thanks for keeping the spirit of Esoteric alive and well.
Monks of Madness!! Lorda mercy! What WAS that shit? I was in the fucking grip of the madness from start to finish. I have always been a pretty big advocate for the slurpy, grungy twistedness, but maaaaan, Bodhi and Arahat took the cake… and the candles, and the wish. That set was amazing guys. Please release a full-length of the MoM stuff as soon as humanly possible. I’m thrilled to have a chance to play some of that stuff over in the Land of the Rising Sun. Gonna touch ‘em with it this month for sure. Will report back!
Mubali – In my opinion, Mubali’s set was the most ridonkulous of the week. I literally had my mind thrown into the Vegan meat-substitute grinder, flip-flopped, rearranged, then spit back out as a tofu batty-patty. Apparently the tune that snapped the system and blacked out the blacklights was “Steaming Pile of Trippy” (according to Bodhi)…That track represented the apex of psychedelia IMHO. You tore me limb from limb with your upgraded sound, combining slinky, sludgey Scando slop with that quindessential crispness ‘pon the bassline and kick that holds a Mubali tune together. You looked so at peace up there… slaughtering sentient souls and barring no holds. It was insane my brother. I cannot wait for the next full-length. Like I told you, its obvious you’ve spent some time in Denmark because there’s no other explanation for the foresty frolic that you took me on. Give my love to Zoolog and tha Ninjaz. Thanks for the chatter and love during my set as well. You were calling everything I dropped!
Clandestine – Missed the first half-hour but was overjoyed to see the be-robed mystic of the Kansan clan back in action at AUM. Got a great response from the Street Fighter samples and enjoyed grooving on the funk-da-fied goodness that only Boozer can provide. Sad that I missed Interfuse but I was there in spirit. Expect some well-deserved help from the Arkansan crew on the next Mindlicker. Also, thanks for the CD! I rocked it all the way home. Great selection.
Jeremy “Sailormoon” Wolf – Awesome to finally catch up again after your extensive travels. As always you were a class act and a joy to hang out with. Your set was a blaster for sure… Syrupy, Goadelic crispiness. I always enjoy your stuff. Thanks for dropping some Trold and please check out the stuff I recommended. I thought the little notebook was a great idea! Will have to have one of my own next time. I would love to tag with you sometime in the near future. Any plans on coming to Japan?
Kevin and Aastral – It was my second time hearing Psylent Pulse and I was once again blown away by the deck-wizardry displayed during those twilight hours. You two have made an artform out of twisting heads with that signature style of mashed up freak-funk and neuro-noisecore that we’ve come to know and love. I really appreciate all of your efforts in making this come to a head. It was great to chat with you (Aastral) about the creation of AUM from inception to realization. You two are like nothing else. Keep it up.
Amber – The first hour of your set was incredibly good stuff. It was some seriously slimy, squirrley forest-funk and I was getting down pretty hard. I love your tune “Moosey” (literally among my all time faves) and I was happy to hear some more stuff in that vein. Enjoyed the perverted hentai anime squishiness mid set. The last half hour or so sort of rocketed the BMPs a little high for me to do anything but twitch. But it was a lovely twitch-out indeed.
Lauryn – I had a great time decompressing to some of your chirpy, earthy vibrations. You definitely had a really unique sound going on during your set. For a while I felt like I was playing the role of the net in a cosmic ping pong game. With the spread-out sound panning and wobbling back and forth across the flancedoor. There was a cool balance between chunky, thickness and spacey breathiness that made a great atmosphere.
Regrettable misses:
DiMiTry – Of all of the sets I was looking forward to, yours was number one. People said you annihilated it. I only got to hear a few tracks as I was holding it down at the chill area for my beloved nutter-in-crime, Vaxination. Of all the stateside psy-slingers, I think you, Toki, and the Goa Constrictor and I have the most in common musically. Can’t wait till next time.
EgNogRa – I was in a very strange place during your set. I could hear it but was somewhat incapacitated for that couple of hours. It sounded pretty raging however.
Scott Ooze – Again, was kicking myself for this. Spend a good while down at the chill trying to hang out with some friends who were playing down there. I meandered by and stomped a couple of times during the set and what I heard was really fantastic. Ever since getting that single CDR at the second Spectra Inertia, Ive been eagerly awaiting a full-length!
Keith Triton – Man, I didn't realize that you were on when you were or I would have been down there. I was pleased to have made you acquaintance at AUM and regret not having met you up at Gaian Mind in PA. Hope you had a safe trip back. Thanks for being such a fun, nice guy. Till next time…
Megan – I was nice to meet you. I appreciated your supportive words and having a chance to get down on the dancefloor (especially Sat night). I was pretty deliriously tired when you came on and think I may have hit the hay by that time. Hopefully there will be another chance soon considering how many good things Ive heard. Thanks for making so many strides for the American psychedelic trance society and musical community. You’re a true pioneer.
Sylph – Did the man even make it out?
Innanna – I was really looking forward to hearing you as well and shooting the breeze about Portland like we had talked about on Tribe. Guess it just wasn't in the stars this time. Do you have any mixes for download?
To the people who bemoaned the “inappropriateness” of the music for given times of the day/night… I think much of this had to do with DJs and live performers having planned their sets a little too much. DJs: don't be afraid to open up your cases mid-set and explore a little. If the crowd isn’t responding the way youd like, then change it up! You’ll thank yourself for straying from your preset –set-lists when you see all the smiling faces and stomping feet.
To anyone I missed or skipped, my apologies. I had a wonderful time getting together with the psychedelic families from all across the US and cannot wait for the next go-round. I think AUM represented a critical, unprecedented step forward in our collective evolution and I’ll be thrilled to see where the next few years takes us all. The mass abduction has officially begun! |

Someone played a great intro, I think it was maybe Psylent Pulse or Deep-Fryer. It was a voice talking about seizing the weapons from the man, kinda funny but also inspirational. Can anyone tell me about this track?

I think pretty much everything has been said
Otherwise- Musically, I think the best, most psychedelic set of the weekend was Steve D-Space's morning set, which had all of 4 people listening. For the first time all weekend, my mind stopped hurting and being cornfused and began to emanate positive, coherent thoughts. Steve, we'll be having you back to Arkansas
Deep Fryer- Goddamn son....you were jawsome!
Onnomon- Lovin that shit, another of the AUM artists we here at Esoteric Generation cannot wait to have back
Vegetal was amazing
Other than that, I wish I could have played for you guys....maybe next time (or maybe not)
Asstral and Meghan, I'm very sorry that I never returned to help finish clean up. By obeying the rules of no dogs, I put too much responsibility on my significant other and we had a bit of a melt-down/parting ways when I got back to Fayetteville...really, I am verrry sorry
One things for sure.... Darkansas will never be the same again...
So much left to say, but in the name of remaining constructive, I won't say it...I've already shared my own sentiments and heard enough of yours at the festival, lets focus on AUM '09

what to say that hasnt already been said.
AUM to me was the pinnacle of my year. For the first time a psyfestival in Arkansas was fully what I imagined it could be. The energy was clean and proper with all the hardest of the hardcore kids making the trek out to the boondocks to stomp, kick, and throw the rocks out of the way so that the dancing could go on.
I love dark psy, but my heart lies in the morning goa, and honestly the AUM festival showed me that darkness in the morning can work after all. (thanks Lauryn for that.. damn girl you tore it up in the morning, and it worked!)
I think my eloquent and articulate friend of the deep fried variety put it best, but he usually does, (would mushroom magazine offer this nutter a job already?) the music was top notch, I was thrilled to see everyone bringing thier A game and throwing down the madness proper! I wish I could have caught everyone's sets, I missed some that I really intended to catch, but you just cant catch them all I guess.
Facehead. Jesus chuck that shit is amazing. you are coming back here, and this time you are getting some volume! (I want to hear that track you made at AUM btw.. can you post that somewhere or send it to me?)
Vegetal: I normally dont go for the metal psy side of things, but your set changed my mind. I danced my ass off to that one, finally put the long hair to some use. I had a great time kickin it with you up at the gate too.
Clandestine: boozer I loved it man, the signature sound I wanted to hear from you, you delivered, and the street fighter samples were a nice nutty addition.
Solomoon: I really enjoyed your set brother, but then again I always love to hear you play. you and clandestine started the night off perfect.
Goaneck, dude, good god, I stomped my ass off to your set, I love the hootnanny track, I'm I'm glad you brought the blend of madness with a taste of some arkansauce.
Deep Fryer: man you even dropped the colbert sample. and your tune, god it fits the name so well.. that shit was squirmadelic man! I was wobbling around droppin mario change in peoples domes like a psychedelic welfare officer. It was great having you back man, its been too long. the rising sun has done nothing but improve your game man, you tore it the fuck UP!
Aktif and Collision, its a real bummer you boys and freedom and shagee didnt get the full time, but you worked with it and god damn you guys threw down for the psyowans!
Freedom and Shagee: god damn, what can I say that hasnt been said? Jarryd, Neal and I lost it to this one. I threw so much damn energy out on these two that by the time the monks got on I was almost spent. Almost.
And the Monks, you monastic peddlers of madness, good god that shit was insane.. I think neal put it best, what WAS that? I await a release as well.
D-space: steve, your set was the icing on the cake. that was what my sunrise ideally is, granted I waited until noon for it, but you are coming back here and you will play for the sun as it comes over the trees. I had a great time hanging out with you man, sorry I was so exhausted by the end of the festival, jesus five days of madness really knows how to take its toll on you.
Tritton: I'm really glad I caught your set. my dubdar was going off so I had to retreat to the chill stage, and just in time to see a good chunk of your set. man I need to pick your brain on some tunes, I was pleasantly suprised not to know 90% of what you played!
Artificial Life Preserver: the set was sweet, what a great morning that final morning was. thank you for coming and sharing your tunes with us, I look forward to hearing init string at the shpongle show.
There is so much more I want to say about AUM but cant properly express. The deco was top notch, I really dug all the taps, and the visuals were sick. I met so many amazing people there and all of you are now integrated into my psyfamily. I look forward to stomping down with you guys again and again in the future. thank you all for coming to our little 'neck of the woods and sharing your energy with us. I hope you all had as great of a time as I did. AUM was truly an unforgettable experience.
I'll be at the next one, and hopefully many more shindigs inbetween.
I'm still decompressing one big AUMMM |

oh my goodness, what can i say but THANK YOU for all of the loving and warm compliments about our monks set. this is so inspirational and heartwarming to me because of special comments like "what WAS that?"
To clarify what it was, here's a breakdown of the tunes. Every single track was written by either bodhi, myself, arabali, and mubodhi, and one legit Monks of Madness tune that will be released very soon on the first PsyCircle comp.
I am very humbled to hear that our sound doesn't really fit any particular category because we try to create our own southern cali-desert fried flavor that is inspired from all forms of music.
I just finished a new solo piece last night titled "mutated forest" I started it just before aum, but rapidly threw tons of new ideas on it post-aum due to the wonderful experience that i had at this event. We gotta unite the tribes more than once every two years!!!
We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

you know i have very much to say on this aum thread... but a lot has already been said. therefore i will make one new statement and reiterate another:
1- Ghreg on Earth played the best music I heard at AUM, and possibly the best music I've heard at a trance party, period. I have seen the man play many times, and every time i said "this is the best"... and once again he outdid his past self. this music is intelligent, heady, dancey, psychedelic industrio-neurotic bliss jargon. some how it made perfect sense at 6 am in the midst of the insane psychedelic hoe-down. with hay on the dancefloor, so much humidity i had to stamp water bubbles out of my ears, and full daylight he delivered a slow, surging, reptilian-fantastical 2 hours of rhinoceros fingering mind junk. mmmmmmm.
2- who flipped the chicken switch?? |
