aastral, im very glad to hear you guys had a meeting to work on ideas for growth and improvement before the event was even done.
I also can think of no better person than Jeremy to take the lead on that part of the crew
kudos....
As i said before, I an undertaking of this scope, not everything will turn out as planned. But those that truly care about will learn and adapt to make the next go around even that more special, and im very happy to see that is indeed what is happening.
and ps. Artist VIP's are for the birds, or house dj's at least

woooo-hooo! yeah! what an f'in blast!
totally and unexpectedly blown away by the fest. from all of the familia, to the cool temperatures of the lake, to the depths of cave, the insane heat (even for us texans!!), to the incredible music that resides with in the states (whaaaa!),.. it all made AUM this super unique and wonderful experiance.
very AUMsome indeed. thanks to all you heady cats out there who took the year to plan this event and ensure that it provided the psychedelic atmosphere we so need in the states.
order does come from chaos!
now time to spread that inspiration from aum! |

wow. Okay, I'm not even sure where to start.
Well a huge shout out to the core crew members who believed so strongly in this vision and came and worked their asses off to make it happen. I mean, really, we are insane. We are a group of people who have never worked together before, in a place we had never been before, with no money!!! (punk rock!!) We traveled across the country to a seemingly foreign land on pure faith in the vision.
I agree about all the feedback that has been offered so far. And everything will definitely be considered next time around. We tried to create a more diverse lineup but many of the folks we asked to come just couldnt make it this time around! As Aastral mentioned, we've got Solomoon on board now to help us out with that one next time.
In general, it was very difficult to organize an event without all the comforts of home. Just rounding up basic supplies like blacklights and shade structures and tools was like embarking on a treasure hunt. Next time we really need to have a core crew member who is local to the place where the festival is, that was a HUGE mistake. I agree the chillout needs to be more accessible, however we considered many factors like sound bleed and car traffic, etc when we placed it where it was.
The dancefloor moments i got to enjoy were few and far between but they were always spectacular. Sunday nite into monday morning was one of the most magical vibes on a dancefloor i've ever experienced. One track that Freaks of Nature played sounded like the Goddess herself vibrating straight into my heart chakra. at that moment i completely lost it and the tears were pouring out as i looked around in total overwhleming gratitude. In that moment i FELT the world change, the paradigm shift, the possibility and potential reveal itself. It was like a rip in the fabric of time and the universe and my being, taking a left after going straight for so long. I felt empowered. I turned to several people to tell them that we can create whatever we want, really!! I felt a powerful spell being woven on the dancefloor that morning. Together with our intention, we planted the seed of possibility, and with our open hearts and through our vibrating bodies and pulsing frequencies we sealed the spell.
My hope for AUM was that whoever attended would walk away feeling INSPIRED! We live in challenging times and we need this pure inspiration to remind us that we are all powerful, we hold the key to change in our hearts and hands, and we can create our own reality.
I have a million thank yous to give out, abundant gratitude to all the volunteers who came and contributed their energy to making this happen!
To everyone who came and danced with an open heart, you created the magic!
To all the djs and artists who came and played some of the most kick ass music i've ever heard gathered together in one place!
To Kfire (!!) and everyone who helped and participated in the ritual circles, what an intense experience! The magical intentions, whether directly participated in or not raised the vibration of this gathering to another level Blessed Be!
To all the local Arrrrrkansas crew who lent us a hand, you all rock!!
To Jason and Lou for being a kick ass sound crew and keeping us rocking all week long. Thanks for everything!
To Chay and Kelly for bringin out their kick ass deco and working so hard to put it up!
To Goaneck for everything (!) but especially for singing that wonderful song, you have no idea what that means to me now.
To a very special goblin for sharing so much pure love with me
To the land of Arrrrrrkansas - the beautiful trees, the crystals, the caves, the lake, the cicadas, the giant moths, the fire flies, the cute little town of eureka springs... it was a pleasure to visit, thanks for having us
and to my sister, Aastral, whoa girl... i think we're stuck with each other now. We kept each other sane, barely... I'll gladly dance with you any day. Soooo much love to you!
Really, sooooo much love to everyone. Take this inspiration and go out and create something amazing.
The vision for AUM is that it will happen every two years in a new spot each time. It was basically started on the off years of Boom festival. So, let's start the search now, we have one year to find the next location and if you are interested in contributing next time be sure to get in touch early!
on one last note, the festival had less attendees than we had expected, so if you had a ragin good time and have a few extra ducats to spare, please consider making a donation via paypal to aumfestival@gmail.com
PEACE & LOVE to all my brothers and sisters,
megan

i must say i had an exceptional experience. i was not there for the music. i knew this upon attending it would not be my style. i am an oldskool goapsy sound person. but i brought my son, and he met a wonderful friend from the mostly freefood freedom bus, Zarek.
I met many new friends, I shared many oldskool sounds with people, and after hearing this silly kick drum over and over and over and over and over with tiny little elements of psychedelic, i really came to the conclusion that this new psy trance is moretheless suited for the american culture and i now see why people have distanced themselves from it. my jaded two cents!
the complaint about the chill stage is true. i went down once while they were still setting it up. i did not go back. i had my boy with me and he goes where i go so i'm kind of only allowed to do certain things because my strength is only so much when it comes to him and him not wanting to walk up the hill.
as a collective of people, i was very satisfied. i was glad damon also played me some wonderful melodic goa =] out of his car just so i would know that not all music is dark dark dark kick drum dark. i wouldn't even call it dark, it was too mechanical. is that what dark is supposed to be? :-/ i get sick of the "dark/light/prog/blah blah offset genres"
brings back the old 90's argument of goa versus psy or is it the same thing.
ANYWAYS! Love to most you all and to the one spouting off about melody not being psychedelic and to go to a club, well, you apparently know nothing about the grassroots of Goapsy, even oldskool dark xenomorph has melody, but yet instills complete fear into a dancefloor =]. i suppose we call that horror psy though
HJEHE!@#!@#!$)#$*@*
Malick loved everything there. He had a blast and we'll be back in the Ozarks on the 17th =]so look for us.

Ya know, the lack of the progressive and melodic psy on the lineup wasn't completely the fault of the organizers - most of the performers who were invited to play those styles weren't able to make it due to the exorbitant flight costs from the East and West coasts..
But indeed, most nights the music stayed in the 150-160 bpm range from about midnight until well past sunrise. Even though I like the dark/neuro style, it was beginning to get too monotonous even for me to appreciate it fully. Usually I enjoy more 'forest' funky basslines to alternate with the straight rolling 4/4, ala Babar's set at World Bridge last year. Variety makes everything sound fresh, and for that reason, the sets that stood out the most for me were the ones that were stylistically different - Onnomon on Friday morning, Deep Fryer on Friday night, and Avery's impromptu glitchy progressive set late morning on Sunday. I was only able to catch about half of the performers, still kicking myself for missing Ghreg on Earth and Egnogra, heard great things about their sets.
But overall, the vibe of this party reminded me a lot more of the family events we have in Colorado than a big, impersonal festival. Kudos to everyone for making it that way.
  ..it's just another party.. |

i hear you DiMiTry, i know a lot of different artists with many different styles were invited to play, so i don't think the organizers should be judged wholly on who decided to actually show up...
so my question goes out to the DJs who did end up playing (Live Acts are excluded from this consideration since they lack the same degree of musical flexibility)...
if the vast majority of djs at an event are playing a similar style, in this case 150+ bpm night trance, wouldn't it behoove you to mix things up a bit??? isn't the ability to read a crowd and adapt on the fly part and parcel of being a good dj? i mean we're hearing from people who love the dark sounds who are saying it was still too much dark trance... clearly there was some untapped potential there. |

well nobody was really complaining, i am sure if people weren't dancing, the DJs would try to switch it up, but the crowd was into it. so that wasn't really an issue at the time - i just think it would've been more exciting to have a bit more psychedelic variety, that's all.
