I would like to thank all who were involved in the organization of AUM. You all took on a huge undertaking, and did a great job of pulling it off. Having to travel that far to throw your party has got to be pretty crazy. Props on all the hardwork.
I had a great time at the event. The venue was beautiful outside of the frigging rocks that were huge and sharp. From the cave to all the large trees....certainly not the flat lands of Texas. The tapestries were amazing, but they really should have been illuminated more than they were....thanks to Chay for his beautiful artwork. The sound was of great quality, but I was really missing feeling the rumble of the basslines and the punch of the kick. I heard there were some complaints, so hopefully next year.
The music was definitely slanted towards dark/twisted psy...normally that wouldn't bother me, but it started to at AUM. I love that style of music, but even I want to hear some melody once we really start to get into the day light. I am thankful that I didn't hear any full-on since I think most of it is utter crap, but it serves the purpose of bridging the gap between prog.psy/melodic psy to the dark/twisted stuff. Hopefully next year there will be more of a musical balance, and better programming when it gets to say 9AM. Saturday night/sunday morning rocked. Ghreg on Earth owned it big time, Onnomon rocked it as well. Lauryn and Meghan both played some good music that morning. Egnogra was insane, and Mark - Force Majuere did a good job of coming out of his set. Other highlights was getting to see Vegetal play his live set after Jeff/Vampyromorpha's dark psy set. I would have liked to catch more music than I did
It was really cool to meet new people from all over the country, and I really hope to see this festival grow into it's own over the years. Thanks again to all who were involved....if you only knew the energy I was feeling on the dancefloor in the mornings.
Oh, Meagan of MOE.....my wife said that she agreed with you that the chair in that other covered area did look like it was smiling and had teeth

Everything was great. A totally psychedelic experience. The dancefloor Sunday morning for Psylent Pulse was off the hook. Freaky freaking to the 190 bpm insanity... As far as the complaints of not enough melodic music... I will put it bluntly... Welcome to the psychedelic experience, either embrace it or take yo' ass to the club... |

Interesting... I was under the impression that 28thday, psytribe, greensector, alladin, and other such orgs had been throwing psyparties... I guess we've actually been running clubs! |

The post AUM feeling I have been having is incredible. AUM was like no other party I have been to. There were so many elements that this fesival presented that truly made it such an unforgettable experience for me. I arrived at nighttime on Friday so I was in for a treat when the sun arrose. I couldn't believe how beautiful the venue was. I went for a walk, filled with amazement at the beauty and the openess of it. There was enough room for everything. The tapestries were a huge treat for me. I have never seen such large and beautiful tapestries before. Usually there is a lot of smaller ones but the big ones really add a sense of space and freedom. The tapestries really coincided with music quite well. From the alien beaming intelligence to the outer cosmos on top of the sound stage, to the beautiful tree of death, truly a great specticle to see.
The music was truly unforgetable. Truly epic. I have never heard so much beaufiful dark music in my life. I love dark music. The music at this party was very powerful, and the quality of the music was mindbending. There were so many moments where I felt the sheer power and awe of the music. I left feeling so clensed, refreshed. I was blown away by Monks of Madness, amazing stuff. It was so groovy and powerfully psychedelic, I love the energy it brings fourth. Every one was FREAKIN OUT!!!! It was such a good sight that made me feel like freakin out myself...I did. The people on the dance floor were some of best ever, great energy and vibe. Everyone was having the times of their lives. Eg-nog-ra was amazing. I have never really bothered to use lables like neuro but this was it. It was so dark and beautiful. So aggressive yet in a way so peaceful. A sonic beatdown to clean all negative energys away, and restore fresh powerful energy in its place. Ghregg on earth was awsome, real heady brain music. It was so delightful to hear it at a slower bpm. It really brings out the richness and earthyness of his sound. Deep fryer killed it with his blend of crispy deep fried scando madness. I loved Lauren and Megan in the morning, powerful music for the morning stompers. It was great to hear paradigm in the morning...er afternoon. Flawless mixing and tight morning stompers is what this guy delivered. Two breakfast highlights, Paradigm and OOZE. It was a squirrly free for all when Scott took control of the system and started talking shit, ooze rocked, I love their sound.
Freedom and Shagee played phenominal twisted dark nighttime music, I love these guys. Thanks for being flexible and working with us solving the little time snafoo, that is the way shit ought to be. I would have to say that some of my personal favorate acts of this weekend were definelty Onomon and DiMiTree, and Mubali. Onomon was one of the funnest sets I have heard in a while, beautiful bouncy and so musical, it was so awsome to take in those tunes. Dimitree progressed through darker sounds to squeeky boucncy morning springiness, very fun. Mubali's sound has changed so much since the last time we brought him out to PsyOwa, and I love it. So much groove and ass shakin flow it makes your head spin. I danced my ass off, it sounded so good and rythmic. The sound at this party was awsome...when they turned it up, finally! I thank Bodhi for believing in that WE LIKE IT LOUD!
To see trance in America be as good as it is is one of the most refreshing and invigorating things I know. I think the differences that you see at American parties is what makes them so special. We have such an amazing family that is filled with rich and colorful people. I really sympathize with the fact that the numbers were not that great, as promoters this is an unfourtunate inevidability that happens. But despite the numbers not being there it was made up for in the vibe. THe dancefloor was non-stop...the frickin way it should be! You saw that the people that were there were LOVING IT. Seeing that satisfaction on everyones faces kept building and buiding until everyone was just speachless with joy. I agree that this festival should be focused on every year. With collective effort I believe that this is perfectly feasable. With all the things that were learned from this event assures the next one is going to be much smoother and be even better than this year. This is a good goal to shoot for. With things developing and evolving the way they are here in the US this event has a possibility of becoming the mecca of trance partys here in the US. And that would be a great thing to see.
So thank you everyone that made this unforgettable event possible. Thank you for providing this amazing experience. I got so much amazing enlightenment from it. I hope that everyones decompression is floating along swimmingly. I feel so good about the trance scene here in america after this weekend. Who ever says its not goan here in the us on prolly missed AUM. It was so awsome to meet a lot of the faces that I only knew as net handles, the psy family is growing so fast. Great to see a lot of faces I recognized from California, big hugs to the whole cali family, you guys rock. Keep it goan people, everyone rocked this weekend and I hope everyone feels GREAT. Give yourselves a pat on the back and a hug, ya'll deserve it.
Big Boom and Namaste from PsyOwa,
Nick |

What to say???....w0w! what an awesome birthday and great festival all rolled into one big long Hell's Angel Ozark Full MoontopiAUM weekend. My flesh is still a shade of crispy crimson from the rays of the Sol Star refracting off the man made crystal lake. Cliff diving with the most lovely cast of characters was one of many highlights. As for the music....well I missed a bunch of it, being in my festival summer siesta flow., I am happy to say I didn't hear one damn 80s remix the whole time! Here's to living in the Now! It was great to hear Onnomon....always great music with finesse and flow that defies those pesky categories....slamming stuff from Monks of Madness and a really enjoyable set from mr. Egnorga plunging to the overcast depths of netherworld green and grey. Top notch visual stargate cortex tickling deco sucking me in every time I visited the dancefloor. Mucho gratitude to all the organizers and volunteers for their hard work in making this intimate and unique festival happen.

"As far as the complaints of not enough melodic music... I will put it bluntly... Welcome to the psychedelic experience, either embrace it or take yo' ass to the club..."
This is an age old debate in psy... I find it strange that in scene with beliefs like ours about freedoms of choice that comments like this are so common..
While I am mainly into darker styles of psy music and didn't find the musical flow at AUM to be too hard for my tastes. I did hear complaints from others about the flow. While I think AUM's intention to provide a psychedelic experience and uniting at least the "dark" side of the U.S. scene was certainly achieved. I think the goal of uniting the US psy scene as a whole was(?) and should remain the main goal.
Melody and "pretty" music shouldn't always be confused with club music. It might not be your personal cup of tea, but to say psychedelic experiences can only be had to dark music is a little naive to what a psychedelic experience is or can be... Can it be said the light music played at AUM was not apart of what was psychedelic at AUM?
I won't deny the fact that lighter versions of psy can still be very psychedelic, but I will say there is a higher percentage of light music that is not that psychedelic...
I think its up to the promoters of a fest like this to seek that music out.. I think they did a good job getting good lighter acts to play this time.. I just hope that next AUM there will be a little better balance and be more inclusive of the US scene as a whole. (which is not particularly the fault of the promoters, but was more a limitation of funds) This is a balance that to me won't take much to achieve at future AUM's.
Any way.. I had a blast and thought the promoters did an amazing job considering the logistics involved with such an difficult endeavor.
I look forward to the next AUM..

Melodic music does not have to be full-on, Dale. the psychedelic experience is a lot older than what you heard at this party... there is no reason that 'dark' should be a benchmark for the kind of sound that HAS to be played.
you can do it purely psychedelic and still keep it uplifting...
try :
CPC, Terminator, Transdriver, Darkshire, G-Light, Kraft, Samadhi.
When Brainlizard threw on Ocelot's Tribeadelica smiles erupted. You need that kinda stuff in the morning. |

WOW! Can i just say AUUUUMMMMM! The US family rocks and I am seriously grateful for each and every one of you who made AUM Festival what it has become....an experience not to be missed for sure!!!! A week of camping, swimming, sweating, laughing, crying, dancing, rutualizin trance induced psychedelic family gathering fun!!! This really was not a whole lot more than a pipe dream not too aweful long ago for the 7-8 of us pulling things together! Through out this event i felt like i was organizing in some alternative reality because certainly it was not already time for this to be happening in the here and now !
I actually agree that alot more melodic style trance would have been the balance at this festival in order to truly bring the full sound of trance in the US together...unfortunately those who we asked either did not have an interest or agreed to come and did not show up :-( SOOOOO rest assured before the festival even came to an end a meeting was called and our dear friend Jeremy aka Solomoon has agreed to take up the proggy line up for 2009 and keep the sound in balance!! We are incredibly happy and honored to have him on board. One other really strange thing that happened was that we heard alot of folks we understood to play a more full on sound playing more of the harder neuro style trance....oh well we are aware and on the path to more successfully bring all of the US trance styles to one location in 2009!!
This was indeed a huge undertaking and we appreciate all of the positive feedback and in general the positive suggestions for improvement from our trance family. We really do take all of these to heart and attempt to put them into action if at all humanly possibe ... I am still in Arkansas scooping up the moop around the camp (which was minimal btw) and jumping off the highest cliffs i can find into one of the clearest lakes i have seen in a long time when it gets too hot in the day.....and you know what ? I miss each and every one of you who walked these pathways with us! I keep thinking that when i get back from the lake the party will still be happening ...hehehe
As far as VIP camping goes i just wanted to share with everyone that the camp you are speaking of Damon was actually the crew camp, set up for us to have a safe and semi quiet place to eat, sleep, rest and handle the business of organizing a festival. Please know that this was never intended to remove artists from the rest of the festival. In fact i saw very few artists that were not a part of the crew there at all. Personally VIP at a trance gathering is not something i am into at all!!!
This thread has brought tears to my very tired eyes more than once and i thank you all for your excitement and kindness...we did indeed do our very best and as always plan to improve ourselves each time we do this festival!
Love and light to all!

Fullon may currently contain alot of boring and overly oldschool artists at the moment, but to say that it has no place at a psychedelic party is to ignore the fullon artists who are making quality tracks, from mantrix to voice of cod... its interesting to me that people are now interested in prog but discounting fullon... much of the prog genre is WAYYYY more club oriented then fullon ever will be. |

I would also like to see a daytime
stage operating. Just something small
with a mackie system. Far away
from the main stage area. I talked to alot
of people who still wanted to hear music
during the day.
That would be a great time to represent
more melodic and techy styles and let's
not forget good old fashioned Goa trance.
The chill stage was great and I thought
the natural backdrop was beautiful.
I think there should be a bigger shaded tent
for people to chill and maybe tables and
chairs, air mattresses
and chai and coffee served. I would be more
than happy to lend my assistance in that
area next time.
Great job overall though for the first gathering. I can't stress enough how much
I appreciate how hard everyone worked and
how organized things were for the most part.
The possibilities are endless!!
