I agree with a lot of you above, the venue location was great but i did feel that chill area was a bit of a difficult journey ...It was amazing of a party since this was the first midwest party for me. it was great to meet new friends and old friends as well. This festival was great it combined people from all sorts of regions in one BIG GIANT TREE. I agree with damon that this festival has a potential to grow and unit the tribes in different regions.

Much thanks to everyone, it was GREAT to meet people that I have been communicating with virtually as well as friends that I haven't seen ages. Till next time, take care everyone and peace

Many Kudos and Thanks to all who participated in this really special event.

While i'm sure there were a few bugs (figurative and real) in the overall operation of the festival, it was still amazing that it really did come together. And frankly, my experience was that of inspiration and give and take of energy. Once you get a baseline number of unified souls it's like a reactor and new energy is created. I'm refreshed! Thus, bugs are irrelevent.

The music was fantastic. I'm so happy to have heard Ghreg on Earth, Mubali, Monks of Madness, Freak of Nature, Primordial Ooze. You guys have come a long way since I first heard you. top notch. Bravo!!!

Overall the music tended to be on the pummelling side. I realize that most psytrancers these days seem to be mostly into that. Some kind of metal legacy. Paradigm gave us a wonderful morning set with a touch of fluff but with great energy, he's a fantastic DJ. The end result is that it's given me a little nudge into making the sort of bouncy morningesque music that could probably use a little more representation in the US.

A shout out to out Arkansas peeps, connected isratrance handles to faces and names. Now I can hunt you down like possums you are!

Give a little boost to the festival workers who are still there and dismantling the works.

Boom!

Re: the chill stage, it's a tricky trade-off, because I totally agree with the comments posted here, but on the other hand the lack of sound bleed gave it a huge leg up on almost every chill area I've experienced. What to do?

There are many other spots where you can't hear sound from mainstage

and re: better marketing, I'm sure many folks wish there had been like 1000 ppl or whatever, and it makes things run smoother financially, but for me, it was the best-vibing ppl who came and I'd never want to exchange that for bigger numbers. The family atmosphere made this a magical experience for me, and it would be a bummer to see that lost. Occasionally there are some festivals that can pull it off the best vibe and lots of peeps, but I think it's generally a trade-off, and I doubt there could be the same feeling of a collective mission of hardcore dancefloor freaking out, even if there were more cool people there in general, if the additional cool ppl weren't as dedicated to the music. Just my 2 cents.

They have at least few years before they hit 1000 people

Glad to hear that it was such a success! I was DJing at the Eclipse festival in Quebec, or I would have been there otherwise. It's very inspiring to know that lots of different tribes across the States came together to bring about such a happy-sounding event. Big props to the organizers, artists and dancers.

What a wonderful experience! Thank you all so much for all the hard work of putting this festival together. I'm sure this wasn't an easy thing to do being in another State and trying to work with people all from other States! You guys RAWK!!! AUM was such a great experience. It was so nice to meet all the people we met... I can hardly describe my experience on the dance floor. I will just say that it took me somewhere I haven't been in a really long time. Thank you thank you to all the promotors, producers, and dj's that made this experience happen. One of my only complaints is where the downtempo location was. I would have spent some more time down there if it wouldn't have been such a walk to get there. I think there were several better places for it to be. Other than that it was great!

The location was beautiful. We went and explored the cave which actually felt really good because it was so dark and cool in there. Going to the lake and cliff jumping was nice to. We had to do that every day between 12 and 3 with it being so hot. it was also nice that the town was so close. I brought a bunch of food and really didn't even need to because we could just drive into town and eat. I hope to see this location used again.
I hope to see AUM happen again next year. I think it has so much potential and would love to see it grow over the years. I want to be able to look back and say 'I remember going to the very 1st aum fest" hehehee

Until
next time

I echo everyone's positive comments above!
Much thanks to all organizers for their valiant effort pulling this event together. I know it wasn’t an easy task!!! I enjoyed sets from Facehead, Actif + Collision, Monks of Madness (!), Vegetal (!) and the Lauryn-Megan combo in the morning.

I also plucked a tick off my arse last night....so i recommend everyone inspect yourselves           http://soundcloud.com/t-o-u-c-h-samadhi/sets/moksa/

That lake was absolutely essential. Too bad I didn't see as many people there from the festival. Did everyone just stick around the camp?

Moksa, I don't think I had a chance to meet you. Bummer, so many people so little time.           Kent

Never in my life have i experienced a Psytrance event so amazing. EVERYTHING about this event contributed to making it by far, the best Psytrance event i have ever been a part of. From the organization / entry, to finding the camp sites and feeling out the venue, from the amazing art work, to the sacredness of the land, from the ridiculous amount of talent and positive energy just RAGING at this event to the awesomeness of the vendors... AUM surpassed my expectations by far... and then some!

It is hard to experience a party as ridiculous in magnitude as AUM festival, and somehow believe that parties could get any better. I find myself questioning myself constantly, totally baffled at what just happened over the past weekend. It just keeps happening....! Psytrance events in the USA are just getting better and better, achieving new levels of energy, deco, attendance, vibe, and several other aspects as well. After experiencing AUM, it is almost unbelievable to think that in two years, AUM 2 will blow most certainly blow AUM 1 away.... whats even harder to believe, is that in between AUM 1 and AUM 2 over the next two years, there will be several other events put on by other fellow Psytrance lovers that promise to blow all of our minds again, and again, and again.

What we have going in this country, and in this world, is the absolute most amazing network i have ever dreamed to be a part of. This weekend i experienced life and existence in a form that is as good as it gets, in my opinion. Total satisfaction, total cleansing of the mind and body, total bonding amongst friends, all facilitated by this special, intelligent kind of dance music, and all of the creativity and positive energy that flows merely seconds behind it. No material possession or physical experience could ever top that which was AUM... that which is a true, Psytrance-dance experience. I look forward to experiencing many more with you guys, and i look forward to contributing as much as possible at future events. PEACE

Trancendental Meditation Complete.

I couldnt have asked for a better weekend. THANK YOU AUM and ALL of its ATTENDEES!

P.S. - For those who were complaining about the dominance of dark and lack of Full On, i sympathize with you, as i am also a true lover of rich melody as the sun rises in the morning.... but AUM successfully found a way to have dark nearly the whole time, while maintaining progression and flow throughout the night, and into the morning. Greg on Earth's set Sunday morning was an amazing example of this.... as his low, rumbling bass lines are not too intense for the morning, and give you a "robot awakening" feel as the earth comes alive as the new days begins. AWESOME FUCKING PARTY one more time!

So great to meet so many new people, and to see so many friends! Love you guys           Abrahm

Yeah, based on the lineup and reports it seems like one of the initial fears voiced about this fest came to be true: a huge slant towards darkpsy/neuro. While its cool that this pushed dean in the direction of making more morning oriented stuff, the assumption behind that push (i.e. that the lineup was that way because there is a dearth of morning and prog producers in the u.s.) just isn't correct. Here in the northeast alone there are numerous fullon, morning, and prog producers, from animaltek to earworm to Cyzum/zero divide. Down in texas there is init string. On the west coast there is random, meta, ettiene, prophei, bluetech, shapeshifter, and I'm sure numerous others that I'm not aware of. It sounds like everybody who attended had an awesome time, and that rocks. But bringing the scene together is about getting people from all walks of music to attend. It bears thinking about those who didn't attend, and why; if its because all those who chose not to come are a bunch of vibeless, non-family losers, then great. But if its because many chose not to attend out of a fear of continuous 150+ bpm bass lines (as many of my friends out here expressed to me), then maybe for the next aum it would be cool to be a little more inclusive of the parts of the spectrum that were neglected this time.
I'm not saying the event didn't rock. I didn't go, so I can't talk from personal experience, but everything I've heard both online and off seems to indicate that it did, and hard. Kudos for that. What I am saying is now that you guys have thrown an event that was totally awesome, maybe its time to see how you can get those people in the u.s. who care about the scene as much as you do but aren't into the dark so much to come out.

I was thinking of mornings somewhere on the offworld colonies, say in the Arcturian cluster. You've haven't seen a morning like that! yet!

I think cost has something to do with why we might not have had people like Random or Shapestatic. Of course they may have busy schedules too but I personally know a few people who couldn't make because of distance=cost.

I think the original concern of an all "neuro" fest made it increasingly difficult to get acts of other styles of psy to come out for the available monetary compensation. Even some of the acts that originally were going to come and play that do play other styles did not come out. This made the fest even more "neuro" than originally planned.

I do think there should have been more push for those DJ's who can play more styles than one to not play "neuro" if possible.

Sometime before sunrise on Sunday it hit me ... A.U.M.

The essence of what it was supposed to be. I came to this event expecting another big party and was shaken out of that comfort zone. AUM was a cleansing ritual. From the cave to the intensity on the floor, the tapestries with encoded meaning, the altars : the elements, the people, the eyes and the smiles. Everything had so much depth and meaning, and worked so well that you couldn't help but think that this is how it was meant to be!

The music was a soundtrack to the experience. It was one of the first times that I didn't religiously follow all the sets but the ones I caught blew my mind.

Monks Of Madness were over the top... perfect balance between trippy nightime dance music and and bionic sounds from the underground. These guys are going to take the global psy nightfloor by storm with this live set.

Brainlizzard and Aastral... havn't heard a twisted sunrise set like that in a loooong time. Loved the progression of sound as the light broke through. Wonderful energy.

Gregh on Earth was another dream come true. Love the fact that he sticks around the lower bpm range... it gave the morning a feeling of its own... slow and powerful waves.

Egnogra! Gave the floor a taste of the borderwolds of underground psychedelia. BPMs hit a point where it was no longer "Beats per minute" but pulsing weaving strings of sound. Have never experienced a set like that and it was really cool to move to. Hope to hear more sets like these...especially the later tracks with melodic overtones.

Vegetal ... was never into metal but the way this guy integrated it into the sound was brilliant. I think I got a/the meaning behind the intensity... very cool. Hope people pick it up and pass it on. Storm the gates!!!!

Aktif ripped the nighttime floor with his pagalpanti. Primordial Ooze in the morning, ooo la la! never sounded so groovy. Freaks Of Nature, heard the end and was kicking myself for missing the rest... truly epic.

Heard every set was being talked about which was great!

A few things ...

Chill stage. Looked like the best spot for a stage... great view. The first day that I got there I was in awe... the walk felt like nothing. By the 3rd day I was dying taking the road more than a couple of times a day. Too much for that intense afternoon heat. If you guys use this venue again please move it somewhere closer.

The progression of sound. Well, the party was meant to be this way... Neo-Goa/Underground/Dark/Twisted... The music follows a pattern thats outside the realm of other kinds of psytrance. There was twilight. There was morning. It was just encoded within this style of psychedelic music. There are a bunch of dark psy producers who focus on the morning side of the ritual... Ocelot, Fractal Cowboys, Mubali. And there are the Russians who have been doing this for many years. Most of it includes oldschool leads which can be quite a surprise for ppl who've been looking for good old Goa. Hope you guys can bring more of those melodic dark sounds to AUM in the coming years.

And please do this every year!!!! 2 years is too long to wait. Especially with the speed at which the sound in question is evolving.

Thanks all the people for putting their best energy into this event. The organizers for the vision and hard work. The artists for the music and interaction with the dancefloor. All the party people for being real, open and positive. Its not easy keeping your wits about with so much happening all at once but it was almost impossible to freak out with the good souls present there.

This has been one of the biggest highlights partying in the US. This party has the vibe+music combination that many people think died years ago. Happy to see it growing strong. Sad to be leaving the west months after I discover it. Hope to get a last gist of it on the Playa.

btw... if anyone is heading to India this year please look me up. I'll be in Kolkata/Calcutta and will be more than happy to show you my hometown and introduce you to some crazy Bengali cusine ... all you need to do it get there. Already a couple of people heading there this winter so if we get a good weekend/fullmoon date an outdoor party will be on the menu.

Love you all!

~Varun
