If you find someone else's tutorial on how to synthesize percussion, it wouldn't become your way to do it.
Instead open your favorite synth and start from init patch. For a hint - use noise as source and lots of tweaking of filter and amp envelopes. Eq, compress, room to taste.

hey bro ! i use samples but i use a drum machine like , geist , or cubase groove agent , , then some phaser , or chorus ,also camel audio ( camel space ) what is brilliant for making a unique sound to your percussion ! also eq around the 500 hz 1k ,and 2k so you can filter out the unwanted sounds !! ! also you can use a drum loop and eq that to this range it will change your sound of percussion !! or better just grap a fx vst and play around with it and see what you can explore your possibilities ! tip also very good fabfilter twin 2 !! a fabilous vst to greate or add some sound effects ! hope it helps a bit !? good luck ! |

experiment with sine waves, noise, fm ,envelop modulation.
a lot come from the amp envelop that need good snap ,just using attack decay is often enought .
or use something like microtonic at first it s more intuitive to get the basic, it also sound great with processing |

Did you try Google? SoundOnSound Synth Secrets (http://www.soundonsound.com/search?url=%2Fsearch&Keyword=%22synth+secrets%22&Words=All&Summary=Yes) comes up as 3rd result in a google search for 'percussion synthesis', and includes:
Practical Bass Drum Synthesis
Synthesizing Drums: The Snare Drum
Practical Snare Drum Synthesis
Analysing Metallic Percussion
Synthesizing Realistic Cymbals
Practical Cymbal Synthesis
Synthesizing Cowbells & Claves
Synthesizing Percussion
Practical Percussion Synthesis
Perhaps less obvious, the Waldorf RackAttack manual (http://waldorf.electro-music.com/rackattack/manual/ra_english.pdf) has a chapter called 'Programming Drum Sounds' (p.84).
Hope this helps |

LOL... be careful you might be doing Makus way to percussion... don't follow it or you might be unoriginal, please start tweaking a synth from scratch until you get your own way of synthing percussions.
BTW Don't even think on using white noise because that is what everybody else is doing for hihats.
I recommend SonicCharge's microtonic and the waldorf attack Vsts... both are designed to synthesize percussion. |
