I don't want to put a "whao, tremendous, you are a genious, the best ever, so amazing" cause you are my friend, and everybody knows that, so I think it would be suspect but the least I can say, is that if you like Memory Shell, you'll probably love Leylines. Of course, it's just my point of view |

well, like I said before,I really love all the tracks in this album but I love "Inter" and "Blossom" the most.
the rest of the tracks here are beautiful extensions of the unique signature Aes dana sound and style, they go deeper and wider in terms of music composing and sound designing.
exploration of musical horizons that Vincent Villuis crystallized into brilliant executions of ideas.
now, about "Inter" and "Blossom" ,i think that with these 2 wonderful compositions Vince is adding some completely new dimensions to his sound an style, giving us some other fresh Aes Dana perspectives.
cheers

I've only listened to this once so far, as background music. Really enjoyed it tho. And looking forward to letting it take the fore next time.
After reading the reveiw of Fluid's Hope from 020 Magazine, I saw the following reveiw for this Leylines:
http://www.020magazine.com/webs/02005/showArticle.cfm?id=1239
It's a good review, however the author seems to think that some of the track lengths are excessive in the album format and should be truncated. He says that the longer lengths are suitable for a chill floor or club, but not for an album designed for home listening.
I couldn't disagree more. I just wanted to make that known, as I'd hate to think that at some stage we'd have to buy the album with "edits" and then digital versions of the full tracks as well... anyway, I reckon long tracks are fine for home listening; they become much more of a immersive experience...
Keep up the good work Aes Dana and Ultimae. |

One of the things I like about ambient/ambitrance/or whatever name you want to pigeonhole laid back electronic music into is that it's wide open for execution of an idea. Pop artists have to conform to expectations, including just how long a song should be. I don't think 7+ minute songs are uncommon for this genre either. I can appreciate the he felt the songs were too long for his tastes, but I don't think shaving down songs to the most likely acceptable length of time is the answer. The answer is to flip to the next song if the one you're listening to is wearing thin.
To my ears, I didn't feel like any of the tracks wore thin. Even with active listening. I'm in agreement that albums with shorter tracks for the general release and extended tracks released separately for the club/chill rooms seems like an unwelcome idea since I don't have expectations of tracks to be supposedly reasonable lengths. Plus I don't want to have to rebuy any tracks for the extra listening time. |

Hi Vince!
I was lucky and received the album the same morning as my flight to Vancouver so I got it with me on vacation in the mountains, lakes and wilderness. What a great companion, and what a psychedelic album you've created..! That's a word rarely used in our downtempo ambient genres, but this time around it's due.
The dark, eerie vocal pad in Alignments starting @ 5:40 gives chills... And somehow it captures the "Ultimae sound" that has evolved of late.
2009 is such a year for you guys huh!

That's the best Ultimae release since the last Asura album IMO! And that's quite incredible looking at the amount of amazing releases they put out.
Congratulations Vince! Wow! |

it seems that Vince and the rest of the Ultimae artists and team are constantly pushing the boundaries with every release by them.
the sound manipulations and architecture on "Leylines" are amazing !
the textures, the rhythms and bass lines, all the layers, everything is so lush, emotional and atmospheric, especially what Vince did with the pads, it's just so powerful and hypnotic.
"Leylines" is a beautiful sophisticated and rich sonic and visual revelation from start to end.
cheers !
