Hi guys and gals - new to the site, please be kind! I'm currently using Reason 4, trying to squeeze some psytrance out of it with limited success. I'm a long time psy DJ (hobbyist, some paid work) and new to the production side of things although I seem to be getting the grasp of it fairly quickly. I'm thinking that I need to get Cubase 5 and Rewire it into Reason - is this the way to go? I'm not up for a Reason vs The Rest of Them discussion, just some plain old advice as I'm not getting the results I'd like from Reason alone (soundwise, not arrangement wise). Artists of reference would be Audiotec, Bizarre Contact etc (just the usual suspects!!). Many thanks for any advice |

Hi,
Reason is fine & the possibilites are unlimited so stay defo with that what you like the most.
And if you want to use cubase - which is for sure not a bad idea ,if you won't loose the sense of fun for creation - than you can do it.
Only the other way round.Cubase will always be master and Reason his slave or you can rewire reason to cubase ;-)
If you want to use reason mainly than you wouldn need the most complex version of cubase. Why not cubase sx.
Wish you much fun.
Peace |

forget about reason. its a great for playing around (imo).
But why not just start out with somthing like ableton live.
why not get ahead now, instead of beeing set back later because u want to try somthing else.
Cubase is great to. but imo live is faster to learn.
I went from reason to live. and it was blown away. it rocks!! |

Thanks to both responses so far - making sense. If I can ask, what are the naretir, what, in your opinion are the advantages of Live over Cubase if I'm gonna make the change? Thanks |

No point. Both programs offer more than you'll ever need to make professional music. Its just a matter of taste. Just try them out, and see what feels best to you.
As said before, Live is extremely easy to get into, Cubase has a bit steeper learning curve if anything. |

psycrafter - its your path! naretir choose his...
Reason is a nice program and you can make good sounding music in it.
The only way you can find out is to try demos and see if you like them, i my self do most my work in either Cubase SX or FL, most often i bring my FL projects over to cubase to have more editing freedom and because i like the sequencer and mixer better in Cubase...

Thanks again to all respondents. It's great to see so much enthusiasm in the community. I think the advice I will be following is to perhaps try out some demo versions and see what sits most comfortably. I have no problem facing steep learning curves, in fact would welcome a challenge as it is what I'm passionate about. Thanks again to all concerned |
