ok i wanna buy a good soundcard, well as much as my $300 limit might allow me.

i wanna get the tc konnekt 8
http://www.audiomidi.com/Konnekt-8-P8944.aspx

but ive tried with firewire before on my laptop and it just DOESNT work: ive had: m-audio audiophile fw and even my friends motu 828 mkII wouldn work, maybe cause the firewire port is one of those tiny e-link things, i dont know , but i ve heard people get it working with no prob. im using a hp pavilion lap with tinyxp beast edition (rocks!!) ive heard theres a lil proble with firewire devices and windows xp sp2, but when i tried the fw interface i had xp sp1 and it just didnt wotk, i mean there was audio , but with a lot of clicks and dropouts. i ended up tradind the firewire audiophile for a echo indigo pcmia which is rock solid, but now i wanna record mic, guitar and synth, so i want the konnekt 8, but i distrust firewire, thats why i am also considering the usb ?¿¿? option!
theres:
mackie tapco link.usb (looks cool!)

EMU 0404
http://www.audiomidi.com/0404-USB-Digital-Audio-System-P8628.aspx#

m-audio fast track pro
http://www.audiomidi.com/Fast-Track-Pro-P6905.aspx#

of course i prefer the konnekt 8, and the only option for me is international mail order so no try before buy on this one

maybe if someone is running it on a laptop with the tiny e-link texas instruments ieee 1394 firewire port, preferently hp pavilion or any other, and which OS are u using any service packs or hotfixes needed?

i dont wanna fck it up this time

a friend had a emu and we never get a proper midi synchro with external gear with it, very very bad timing ! maybe the card was fucked i don t know ... check the midi timings , it s very important for tight bassline and leads...
