Uad works flawlessly on Live. I use both. Otherwise I cannot recomment a lot of plugins, as I mostly use Cambridge EQ, L2A2, LN1176. They do the job. I don't know about the other plugins, the precision limiter seems great, but over expansive for me. I haven't even bothered to try the demos. |

eq: neve
reverb: dreamverb
compression: la2a
tool: moog filter
depending on where you lack stuff. but really, buying an UAD card and having only 300dollars to spend is not a good strategy. wait for promotion deals and vouchers in that case.

@SCM : What difference is there between the Cambridge EQ and the Neve ? Also do you have a specific use for the LA2A ? |

the neve eqs have only (depending which one) 3 or 4 bands. they are very limited when it comes to parameters, but they sound wonderful. You realize it when you need to PUSH frequencies. Cambridge is more a tool for surgical, precise cuts and slight boosts. I have it too. It's second on the list for eqs for me.
LA2A. most sounds envelope can be shaped well enough from the synth so I don't need compression in most cases. But if I do I have the LA2A often on the 303 or vocals. But it can be used for many purposes. It's also very limited in params.
I would definitly go for eqs not for compression if you have the choice. I know many producers who say that compressors are only important for naturally recorded sounds. Personally I don't agree, but I began to take more care in shaping the sounds where I create them and I also realized that compression isn't justified very often in electronic music. EQ however is very important.

I didn't use them often. "phasor" is for UAD-1 only but is cool. The reverb is ok too. never tried the channelstrips.

what you think of Neve 88RS Channel Strip? There I have: eq, comp and filters for cutting lows and hi freq.

I think I would first go for the: Neve® 1081 EQ
But actually the classic console bundle is far better value for money.. Personally I have bought bundles, I find 250 for just one eq too much.
The channelstrip... hmm maybe better value for money... hard to tell... I don't use it often. I hope somebody else can give you some intel on that.

Personally I had and have tested hardware and I have to admit that it sounded better than the emulations in many cases.
But 1: The difference was very small
But 2: You need decent AD/DA Converter for each piece of hardware to make but 1 even count.
The HUGE difference in price for hardware effects AND ad/da converters by no means justifies the relatively small gain in quality.
Furthermore you can open 10-40 STEREO Neve eqs depending the UAD-2 card. In average quality even 40-150 instances.
If you recreate that on hardware you are going to spend A LOT more and still are by far not as flexible with total recall etc.
IMHO unless you are doing serious mastering or professional production for clients I don't see any hardware justifying its price. Sure, if you are simply a gearslut, analog lover, it might be nice for your pleasure, go with it, but it's definitly not financially justified when it comes to "value for money".
