hello!
what tools do you use to make advanced sounds??
i dont mean really nice synth...
i mean:
creating new sounds
those sounds you hear when the beat stops for a second,
..with many tricks inside...
like chopped up echos
sudden stops
mangled sound explosions
for example alot of the sounds you will hear in
Bluetech
CPU
Nine inch nails
Psysex
and other accomplished artist
what tools do you use to create+mangle sounds??
im sure this will be interesting for all
cheers
dave

i am back making sounds again!
dont want to start a new thread (cuz the mods always lock them lol) i find that if i have a session of making sounds, i can create much more unique and original songs from that soundbank.
I am looking for advice on making one-shot type sounds. it is too much to use a VST on a midi track just for one note. There has to be a better way...
i am also making a computer Game and would like to make sounds for it. i think its a good combination to create sounds for music at the same time.
it seems quite simple i guess, but
\/
What kind of process do you guys go thru to create, record, and use oneshot sounds? I would like to learn and know about some techniques.
cheers

@ sundrop - for one shots/fx etc ur best bet may be to use samples and cut and slice and bend and delay and stretch etc with them to get the sound u want!!
Use particularly sound libraries with fx or hollywood fx or sfx
also get urself the ilio - trancefusion sample cd, or techno trance essentials... enough swooshes and one shots etc in there to keep u happy for a while!! |

maybe I'm going the complete wrong direction, but I'd say there's enough free fx to do advanced stuff.
for example silverspike tapeit 1(free)/2(notsofree) is a nice sample utility that can grab oneshots and accidents with vst's that are hard to track down, sequence and reproduce a second time.
things like buffer override from destroy fx (easy to google) will allow you to make bridges that sound alot like granular synthesis. (often used in tracks from eskimo, cpu, hallucinogen etc)
sure, it's not that easy to use these tools, but I think doing advanced stuff needs advanced experience...
granular synthesis, heizenbox vst is a good example for distorted oneshots and fx bridges.
I guess it's all a matter of practice. I got the oppinion that maybe 5 years ago you really needed different tools, but nowadays there's too many possiblities to explore. no need for 3000$ hardware really.
and as always, this topic has been discussed several times.

The movieproducers ... the people that are behind the sounds that are incrased ...
HOW THE FUCK DO THEY MAKE THEM?!
Those endless atmosepheres, and freaky effects ... sometimes they use orchestra's I'm aware of that yes, but what about the rest?
Please help me out of this ...
Like for example in "Lost", or "24" ...

Just spend some time experimenting with the granular/slicing type effects and synths in Reaktor Use Silverspike TapiIt while you play then chop out the good bits. The funnest part of music making IMO |

>>> silverspike tapeit 1(free)/2(notsofree)
thanks guys, this is the kind of advice i was searching for.
my problem isnt so much making the sounds.
its how to capture them nicely, and make efficient use!
this looks like the right tool for the job
Lost: i think that the sound team on Lost is using live brass horns to make those long eery sounds. you can make some similar sounds with Reason's brass sampler and Matrix. |
