Hey there!
Didn't find anything about this in the forum so here it goes.
When you are installing for example Cubase VST 5, the setup automatically adds the %VSTPLUGINS%-key to your Windows Register (pointing at the VSTPlugins directory of the Cubase installation). As most of you know, this helps out when you are installing plugins, as the plugin-installation is [very often] compiled with the default rule to make the installation of the plugin in the VSTPlugins folder of yours. To know where this folder is located, it uses the %VSTPLUGINS%-key in the registry to find it.
My problem is that the SX2 installation of mine won't add this to the registry, so how can I add this (or change it) by manual? I cannot for example install the Trilogy because of this, as Trilogy's setup demand the installation of 'Trilogy.dll' in the %VSTPLUGINS% folder, and 9 out of 10 times when I am installing a plug I have to manually look up my VSTPlugins folder, which gets a bit annoying in the end.
I can't be the only one with this problem, eh? Thanks in advance, I hope someone of you folks out there with the knowledge can help me out on this one...
All the best,
Alex

when installing a plug in that its path by defold is "localdisc c-program files-steinberg-vst plug ins" and this location doesnd exist it will ask you to create that folder in that location or even make it by it self so its obvious that the rest (and trilogy) will go there if the installation path is that
but on the other hand i maybe understanded wrongr wht you say and my answer is completely worthles !

No, the directory that Trilogy tries to install the 'Trilogy.dll' to is '%VSTPLUGINS%' (the Windows Registry-key) and not the regular 'C:\bla bla' path. Therefor it creates an error in the setup whom you cannot pass to finalize the setup. Trilogy isn't the only VST that I have experienced this problem with.

Ok, I managed to fix this after some time. I solved it the following way (running english WinXP):
Windows Start -> Run -> regedit
Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST
There you got the string "VSTPluginsPath", who has the data "%VSTPLUGINS%". Change the "%VSTPLUGINS%" to the correct path to your VST folder (for example: C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins\)
Hope I can help someone out there. Lucky tweaking!
