If I got you right, you are asking for two things-
1. Add an icon next to a forum when there are new msgs in it -> we had that in the previous version of the forum, but we decided to remove it. There is too much info on the main page as it is.
2. Add a box with the newest msgs on the main page -> Kind of futile IMHO when we have an average of over 750 new msgs a day in the past few months.... (all time average of about 500 since this version of the forum is up).
Besides that, lots of things are possible, but so few are probable 
Thanks for the suggestion though, we appreciate that (and I hope I understood your suggestions). Keep them coming - we love getting new idea from you guys!
