How do i add say a delay effect to single notes in cubase sx 3?

i know about automation of course and that one can draw in any of the effects parameters you like however i would like say on a lead part to add a delay to one or two notes and let them ring out while the rest of the track stays on without delaying. i have found by drawing this in, the delay drops out as I pull the automation back down in order for the other notes to not be effected. i know there is a way as my mate russal who does Abacus was raving about it however i cant track him down. It can be heard on the closer to the sun album where revrbs etc are applied to small section and they ring out while the rest of the track carries on. Its such a good technique I have to know!! Any help would be muchous appreciatious!

What i do is bounce the section to audio, import it to an audio track and cut out small portions of 1/16th or 1/4th etc. using the quantize grid. Then i just move those to the same position on a different audio track with different effects, panning, eq etc.

You can also apply effects to selected ranges of audio by selecting a range and right-clicking in the range and choosing 'process - effects'.

But if you find out the other method: i'm very curious...

As Boobytrip mentioned, you could bounce down the audio, cut it up and put different sections on different tracks with different effects.

Another way to do it is to put the delay on an AUX bus and automate the AUX send parameter. Don't automate the delay volume or mix as that will cut off the delay and not let it play out.

I like to have several effects on several aux buses and automate the sends to the different buses giving a variety of tricks and effects to play with.

could'nt you just have 2 midi tracks connected to the same instrument - one without the delay fx, and one with. remove the notes that need delay from the first track, and have only those in the second track with the fx.

give it a shot

Illusions,

That will also work but would use much more CPU.

this is how you do it:
add another audio track with only delay effect open to the max (dry/clean ratio).
now cut the note you wanna drop out and COPY it to the delay channel.
