RAM only increase the amount of data that can be accesed fast, not speed or amount of data procesed. So, NO it wouldnt increase the performance of your computer just how much kontakt patches can be running at the same time.
SSD will increase the speed at which you accses files, start up programs, but again it wont bring an overall improvement in performance. That's more related to the cpu, and you cant change cpu on must laptops.

A little more information would help, how much free space is on your HDD? What OS are you using? Cause although I have a fast enough MacPro (4core Xeon CPU with only 1gig of RAM) when there is less than 10gigs of HDD available its going to start failing (not crushing, just get the not able to process data on time). Also when I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leo, I could feel the computer was slower, straight away...
The cheap way of working around your problems, is doing things the old way and bounce/freeze tracks that use heavy plug ins.
Peace out.

yeah, i´d only go for RAM and HDD if you have problems
with loading stuff (as you noticed).
you need a better cpu for the common "speed" issue.
cheers

If you decide to get a new mac, make sure you keep the old one as you can use Logic node to off load processing to both computers, as you see fit.
I have 8 cores between the 4core Xeon macPro and the i7 macBookPro.
Peace out.

Nodes do work, but are only useful for logic´s own plugs. That´s only half a victory really. I see we are talking about logic 8 and i can honestly not remember how much 64bit code is in that one. Osx can only delegate 4 gigs pr. app if the app and os runs in 32bit mode. While ram is important to system performance it does not make your computer much faster in processing terms. That part is all down to the cpu for hard number crunching. Bounce to disk a lot instead of having heavy au´s running live. My album was made on a 2.2 ghz dual core hackintosh with 4 gigs of ram and i never had any issues with an optimized workflow. Only just upgraded the cpu for fun but can´t say i use that extra power for anything. Updating to logic 9 is under all circumstances highly recommended as it is a more recent version that for sure can take advantage of the full compliment of ram. Workflow is everything really and insanely great stuff has been made on stuff people would laugh at today (the first computer in my studio had an almighty 200Mhz cpu, yet i still managed to make tunes)
