I don't think it really matters about "whats in" and "what isn't". The monitors are quality, simple. The only monitors that really challenge the Adams in what they excel at, would be the Focals. But the Solo's don't have much of a low end, and I've heard they are a bit undefined in the low end, and I can't afford the Twins.

Well I personally wouldn't get the A7's. They lack headroom. This is one of the reasons I am against mini monitors and subs.

We have the p11a's and they are satisfying. Don't know about the A7's though, haven't worked with them.

Yesterday or not, they are a good pair of monitors.

Expanding on my previous comment:

I am against smaller monitors like the A7's as I think they lack headroom. Generally "mini" monitors have smaller amps and don't have the capability to produce the full dynamics of un-mastered material with out compressing.

Now if you get the sub you can high pass at a higher frequency and effectively give more headroom to the monitors at the expense of headroom for the sub. The funny thing is that if you cut at say 100Hz the monitors ports will still be producing bass at the frequency they have been tuned at which is usually an octave below the bass/mid driver resonate frequency. This will result in a far from flat frequency response in the bass area.

If you are using A7's in a 5.1 environment with a sub it is different as the sub gets it's own discrete channel.

We have a sub but never use it, we relocated our studio to a much smaller space so now we don't need it anymore.

Hmmm, a lot of people don't seem to use a sub...

Most subs have room EQ and cuts low frequencies from the monitors in order to balance it out. This has to be done by ear and can be quite tough to get right.

For calbration of subwoofers with main speakers/monitors you will in normal case scenario have a crossover.

crossover - It is basically a Low Pass Frequency circuit. For example if my monitors produce bass down to 60hz then i will set my sub crossover at 60hz meaning the sub will play all frequencies below 60hz. Crossover needs to be fine tuned differently for different speakers.

Room EQ is something different that some subwoofers come with. Its basically a system where the subwoofer tries to measure the bass in the room and tries to minimize nulls and voids of bass at particular frequency created mostly in untreated rooms.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"
